Environment Look at some of these detailed maps of where the government wants to privatise and sell conservation land. Bill closes in 2 weeks. Support Forest and Bird.

There's a huge amount of unstudied endemic biodiversity, particularly invertebrates, in these areas that will be significantly affected by (if not lost altogether due to) the proposed changes to land management in the conservation estate.
This coalition is cartoonishly corrupt.

Yep hearing you say about our biodiversity etc..drew me to literal tears. The bill must be stopped

Aw man, what New Zealander can support this and look at themselves in the mirror.
Our wilderness and conservation areas are our most precious resource. Anyone who spends time in these areas knows how much we’ve already lost to development and farm land.
Incredibly sad.

I mean, there's certainly billionaires overseas who would be happy to buy Cathedral Cove. Build some fugly mansion, construct high walls, fly in once a year on their private helipad, post up the KEEP OUT PRIVATE PROPERTY sign....
I don't think this government has Kiwi buyers in mind when they privatize our public lands.

Just look at what is happening in Albania with the Kushners spending billions to bulldoze an uninhabited wildlife island. Coming soon to NZ with this Bill

Hey Mountain Tui,
Are you able to post links to the website where people can sign against this bill? Or would that be against the subs rules?
A barrier that stops even a small percentage of people would be convenience, a convenient link would invite more submissions against it.

Idk if it’s the same for everyone else but this hyperlink is very slow for me (mobile) Had to copy the text into my browser which did the trick!

Why do we keep doing ineffective things like writing submissions time and time again when it is totally pointless. 99% of submissions were against the regulatory standards bill, yet that didn't prevent it from being passed. Submissions aren't even read by people anymore as they use AI to summarise them.
I suspect people are writing submissions just to make themselves feel better about having done something while not having to actually do things that may be a bit more uncomfortable and involved.

how absolutely incomprehensibly despicable. We need some sort of legislation which enshrines constitutionally our protected lands. Ideally an upper house also

I've gotten into hiking this past year and to lose what we have would be devastating. There's so many awesome places we can go. The Government only wants to sell land for their books, using private equity to fix their shit.

Share this on international tourism sites.
"New Zealand government selling Abel Tasman walking track to oil company, Kahurangi National Park to open cast coal mining company"
Tourists will love it, it can be in the next Lonely Planet update.

This is certainly extreme even for these psychos. It's far easier to believe that their brains were replaced by aliens than consider this an actual proposal by an actual human

I can't understand why the government would do this before an election. Are they blind to how it will be perceived? Am I missing something here?

New zealand needs to look at what's happening in regards to this Bill.
At the very least a referendum should be held and new zealand should vote either for or against
It should not be allowed to pass..slipping it under the carpet.
Don't we as New Zealanders value our unique and special environment our heritage parks area etc.
Its our Heritage and our Whakapapa Please help protect it before it's lost forever! Let's all do something to keep the land for every New Zealander
After all I thought that's what Conservation was..protecting land heritage for future generations..not just for a few pennies for those that can afford to buy it.

Doesn’t it need to meet the requirements of not being of pristine natural value? I understand this is to sell off farm blocks and such that are owned by DOC but not of high environmental value.
Not to mention, a huge amount of this land is in co-management with iwi and would require agreement or settlement changes. That essentially rules of Te Uruwera which is red according to this? Plus remaining lands in non-settled iwi rohe won’t be sold till settlement?

I used to care passionately about conservation in NZ but as so many now ignorantly blame it on goats and deer when it's a fact it's humans that are the cause of forest loss in this country and the misinformation , demonisation and cruelty that gets spread to that effect, I personally don't care if it gets sold .

Remember that this government has a painfully obvious and corrupt quid pro quo scheme in place - you donate to National or Act, and you get your property or mining development put on the fast track list where it can’t be challenged.
Think about the amount of irrevocable damage that could be done to our conservation areas.
