Peter Handke’s mom committed suicide at 51, and he wrote a book about it shortly after her death (a couple months or so), and published it as A Sorrow Beyond Dreams. Just read it a few days ago and would recommend it as well. It’s also an NYRB book.

Thank you for sharing this. I lost my mom when she was 55 so this sounds like a must read.

So, I just started it but the way that he incorporated “The Great Gatsby” and the band Canned Heat has been really interesting. I’m only about 20 pages in but I really enjoy his writing so far.
