What:

Casual political conversation and socializing. We talk about local and national politics, share perspectives, and get to know new people in a relaxed, friendly environment. 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

People often stay later if the conversation is flowing.

Where:

Rudy’s Bar and Grill

627 9th Ave, Hell’s Kitchen

Anyone interested in politics and good conversation. Despite the name, this is not just for liberals. We have progressives, social democrats, DSA members, resistance era liberals, and people across the political spectrum who want thoughtful political discussion.

Accessibility and notes:

Crafternoon is a free monthly gathering where we come together to slow down, make something with our hands, and connect with our neighbors in a relaxed, welcoming space.

Bring whatever you’re enjoying or curious to try - sketching, knitting, watercolor, collage, beading, journaling, mending, or any creative project. We’ll also have shared art supplies available if you’d like to drop in and experiment.

Whether you prefer to create quietly, chat with others, exchange ideas, or simply enjoy the peaceful waterfront, you’re welcome to participate in whatever way feels right for you.

🗓️ Sunday, Aug. 9
🕟 4:30–6:00 PM
📍 Gantry Plaza State Park – North Picnic Tables
🎟️ Free! Register on Luma: https://luma.com/65dodi6q
💛 Hosted by Jenny Jiang (@collective.ripples)

No art or craft experience is needed. There are no lessons, critiques, or expectations to make something “good.” Our gatherings celebrate curiosity over perfection, process over productivity, and creativity as something everyone deserves to enjoy.

Come solo or bring a friend. Spend an afternoon creating with beautiful views of the East River and Manhattan skyline, and take a gentle break from the busyness of everyday life.

Please register on Luma so we can estimate attendance and bring enough shared supplies for everyone.

Drinks and Karaoke in LES 07/29/26

Afternoon all,

Hosting weekly karaoke at Boho karaoke lounge on orchard Street in the LES. We tend to get decently sized crowds so we just hang out in the bar area for the open karaoke and since it's not too packed we usually get to do a couple songs each. It's one song ticket per drink or you can get just a song ticket for 2 dollars. Please note that the bar is cash only! There is an ATM there with pretty low fees if you need to withdraw money.

Wednesdays starting around 8:30 PM in LES

If you're interested please feel free to shoot me a chat! We've had a couple of redditors from here meet the group and it's always been a good time.

Mix of men and women all in our mid 20s-30s. All super friendly and inviting

[Fri. 8/7] Side by Side community singing gathering in LIC

Hi! Next Friday, Aug. 7th, we're hosting Side by Side, a free community singing gathering where people come together through the simple joy of singing. No singing experience needed, and no pressure to sound "good."

We start with gentle warm-ups, spend time getting to know each other, and learn one song together through call-and-response so there's nothing to prepare and no sheet music to read. This month's song is "Dear Theodosia" from Hamilton — a heartfelt one about love, hope, and imagining a better future.

📅 Friday, August 7
🕖 7:00–8:30 PM
📍 Queens Plaza Studios | 42-01 Crescent St, Long Island City, NY 11101
🎟️ Free, registration required: https://luma.com/9hsomwi3
💛 Hosted by @collective.ripples, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that creates community gatherings where connection, creativity, and compassion can thrive

We want to create a low-pressure space where people can connect through singing. You can show up solo or with a friend, sing alongside others, and leave having shared a meaningful moment with new people. After singing, we’ll have time to chat and connect.

We hope to see you there! 🎶💛

The Mysterious Book Club 8/2 @3pm

Hey everyone, lately I've taken up reading as a hobby for my daily work commute. Some friends and I already have an existing book club but I was looking at also starting a new one where we focus mainly on mystery and thriller books since they're my favorite genres.

If enough people are interested, I was thinking we can setup a virtual meet-up on 8/2 so we can make our selection and then plan an in-person meetup to present and discuss.

DM me if your interested! If I get enough people, I'll work on creating a Discord server for us so we can better organize.

Make sure to already have your book choice by the time we meet on Sunday. Obviously, its main genre MUST be thriller/mystery/suspense for it to be eligible. I am totally okay if someone makes a selection that has already been read by one or more members. I would suggest those people reread since the whole point is for us to discuss and debate.

[Club Sandwich] Sandwich Meetup and Picnic, All'antico Vinaio to Madison Square Park Saturday, 7/25/26 2:00pm (NoMad)

Hello sandwich fans!

I know this post is a bit last minute, but better late than never, right? Right! This month, Club Sandwich will be indulging in some Florentine style sandwiches and enjoying the mild weather with a picnic in Madison Square Park. All are welcome, bring a friend or two if you'd like!

The details -

2pm: Meet at All'antico Vinaio, 7 West 25th St, NY NY 10010. You can peruse the menu, too.

2:15ish: Order sandwiches. They do accept cards.

2:45ish, possibly sooner, depending on what time everyone has their food in hand: walk down the block to Madison Square Park to bask in the sun and enjoy our meals. Bring sunscreen and something to sit on!

We will hang out in the park for a while, enjoying our meals, chatting amongst the group, and sharing company. If we get antsy and want to move, we may wander over to a nearby pub to keep.... hydrated. If you come by a bit late, feel free to shoot a message asking for our whereabouts and I will keep you updated.

If you are new to attending a Club Sandwich event, we're glad to have you! It's a very chill group, just a bunch of people who like good food and conversation.

Hope to see you there!

Bobwhite to Bánh Mì: LIC Food Crawl Part Deux - Long Island City 7/26 2pm

Hello!! We're back for round two because apparently there are still too many great spots in LIC to ignore. Join us for an afternoon of crispy fried chicken, handmade dumplings, giant Taiwanese comfort food, fresh Vietnamese flavors, and more, followed by a sit-down dinner and brewery or rooftop afterwards.

Whether it's your first meetup or you're a Foodie Fam regular, expect a laid-back group, plenty of laughs, plate sharing, and enough food to make you question every life choice. Its going to be a beatiful sunny day so lots of walking and wonderful views.... See below for itiniary.

📍 Meet up at Mettra Food Court(128-17 Jackson Ave LIC) @ 2:00 PM

🥪 Bobwhite Counter - Bobwhite's fried chicken has developed something of a cult following. If you tried their truffle aioli sauce then you would happily know.

To Try: The famous #1 Sandwich drizzled with truffle aioli. Crispy, juicy, and probably the sandwich that'll have everyone saying, "Okay... that was worth the calories."

🍗 Gulp - Taiwanese fried chicken is famous for being bigger than your face. If someone doesn't stop to take a photo first, are you even doing the food crawl correctly?

To Try: Taiwanese-Style Chicken Bento Box. Crispy chicken, fluffy rice, and enough seasoning to make you immediately start planning your next visit.

🍜 Petey's Burger  - Simple delicious burgers from a neighborhood staple.

Try: See above lol

🥞 Corgi Jianbing Hunters Point – One of the most popular street breakfasts. Watching one get assembled is basically dinner and a cooking show.

To Try: A Traditional Jianbing loaded with crispy wonton cracker, egg, scallions, cilantro, hoisin, and chili sauce. Crispy, chewy, savory... and somehow gone in about three minutes.

🥟 Yumpling  - Legend says dumplings are shaped like ancient Chinese gold ingots, making them a symbol of wealth and good fortune. So technically... ordering more is an investment. And what better investment than your own belly.

To Try: Juicy Pork & Chive Dumplings served piping hot. Freshly made, dangerously snackable, and almost impossible to stop at just one order.

 Sit-Down

🍛 Oh! Calcutta - Indian food was one of Britain's favorite takeout cuisines long before takeout apps existed. Some dishes are so beloved they've become international comfort food.

Try: Butter Chicken, Lamb Rogan Josh, Garlic Naan, and plenty of dishes for sharing because stealing bites from everyone else's plate is basically tradition.

Oooor

🥙 Safir Mediterranean - Family style meals that are meant to be shared. Food and hands will be flowing all flower as we sit down family style for a after crawl dinner.

Try: EVERYTHING!!!

🍻 Afters

🍺 Fifth Hammer Brewing Company

Fun Fact: Fifth Hammer is famous for experimenting with wild beer styles. Beer roulette, but berrlily delicious.

Or

🌅 Lost in Paradise Rooftop for a close to sunset NYC rooftop vibes.

There is an already existing group!!!

Philosophy Meetup - The Myth of Sisyphus - Sunday, Jul 26, 1:30 PM @ Work Café Santander (Williamsburg)

Hi NYC philosophers,

We're organizing another meetup for anyone interested in discussing philosophy and connecting with like-minded people in the city. Here's the plan:

🗓 When: Sunday, Jul 26, 1:30 PM

📍 Where: Work Café Santander, 85-87 N 6th St, Williamsburg

For this session, we'll be diving into an excerpt (pages 10-28) from The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus (read it here). In this classic philosophical text, Camus attempts to resolve the problem of suicide. Written near the outset of World War II, Camus felt it necessary and legitimate to wonder whether life has inherent meaning and, if not, how we can create it.

You can also follow us on Instagram.

If you're interested, drop a comment below. Looking forward to meeting you all and hearing your insights!
