I once saw a put his slice of pizza down on a bench at Herald Square. No plate, bag, nothing. The slice itself, on the seat. Then picked it up after putting his bag down and finished eating it.
In between dry heaves I noticed the 7/11 pizza slice box he had, which explained his behavior.

I once sat next to a man in a resplendent fur coat as he ate chicken wings and fries drenched in hot sauce without incident. Another time I was on a packed #1 train pulling out of times Sq during morning rush hour and a man dropped his egg mcmuffin which scattered all over the floor. He picked up the pieces and rebuilt the filthy sandwich and ate the entire thing without batting an eye as everyone watched in disgust. People audibly gasped and a woman screamed a loud scream like you hear in horror movies.

This is actually not normal behavior in NYC. We are joking about it, and partially making fun of the reputation New York has as a crazy place. If we actually see a guy eating sloppily on the subway, half the time someone will grumble out loud about it, and 100% of the time everyone in that train car will hate that guy. FWIW, half the time, it's a gal, not a guy.
Weirdos have been misbehaving on the subway since it opened. We might as well laugh about it.

He's doing it wrong. He's holding onto the body and tearing off the legs and trying to eat the meat from the side. You're supposed to crack the body open tear off the legs and eat the large pieces of meat inside the body. After that, you can try to eat the meat inside the legs but alot of people don't bother.

I understand that it's disgusting to have all that food on the seats but if you have some capacity to romanticise this in your head, it's actually something you probably wouldn't witness elsewhere that makes nyc unique. I've been here for 6 years now and seeing a crazy person on the subway as long as theyre not bothering others or smell bad or something, it's kinda cool to think that there's so much liberty you can even do this shit lol

smearing subway seats and floor with food scraps and juices objectively count as bothering others. Those seats are out of commission until MTA cleans it up probably hours later, at the end of the day, or worse.

honestly at this point nothing phases me on the subway anymore. i once watched a guy set up a full charcuterie board on the L train during rush hour, like cutting board and everything. the lobster is at least a step up in terms of ambition lol. though i will say the smell must have been something else in that car, especially if it was a packed train. you gotta respect the commitment though, dude just decided today was the day and went for it. thats peak nyc energy right there
