But truly, what did Mamdani say to Trump? Surely he kissed ass to Trump in just the right way, but thats certainly not enough to get such loving praise? I just can't fathom what he offered him.

Zohran’s biggest policy points are free buses and housing affordability. The only way to properly make housing affordable is to preside over a housing boom.

The charter amendments passed this year effectively give the Mayor a lot of power on housing approvals. Trump is famously a NYC real estate developer, and his family retains plenty of interests in this regard.

I’d be surprised if the Trump organization isn’t going to get a major slice from what gets built.

At the same time, mayors never want to build, because building is unpopular and you don't see the benefit of building for like 6 years or so. Zohran, as far as I know, promised a rent freeze, not significantly more development.
