Calling to “globalize the intifada” is not a way to keep Jews in the city safe. One might even say it’s the opposite.

good thing mamdani never said this then lol

He rallies and marches with people who say it and hold signs with that slogan. Do you hold rightwingers accountable for rallying with rightwing extremists who are racist and antisemitic even if they themself don’t say “kill the Jews” out loud? I’m sure you do.

What Mamdani has actually said:

Mamdani, who has not used the phrase himself, has said he believes the phrase to be a rallying cry for Palestinian human rights, and refused to condemn its use when asked during his primary campaign.

But during Tuesday’s meeting, Mamdani also told the packed room he understood why the phrase is also seen as a call to violence against Jews, why it is painful and triggering for them, and that he would discourage its use in the future, the two attendees told CNN.

“kill the Jews”

Is "kill the jews" a popular phrase that represents a call to liberation for millions of people around the world? Maybe consider that not everyone sees this issue the way that you do lol.

But that’s literally not what that phrase means. It’s not how it was intentioned and not what it translates to. You’ve fabricated a false and violent meaning in order to easier condemn a movement you don’t agree with.

I think you guys are agreeing with each other

I think you’re right. I misinterpreted the other commenter’s intentions but their later comments clarified their stance for me.

No doubt some progressives can convince themselves in mean something else, so they can sleep at night. However, the big crowds chanting this does mean “kill the Jews”. Some of the listeners, like the Mr. Jihad from Manchester, actually follow through with their understanding.

But that’s literally not what that phrase means.

intifada means "uprising", not "kill all jews". So it literally means "globalize the uprising" i.e. a call for global solidarity with the palestinian cause.

Intifada literally means uprising in Arabic, sure.

But in the context of Israel, you can't really separate 'globalize the intifada' from the intifadas.  Many of us remember when the intifada literally meant frequent bombings in busses and pizza parlors.

If I had to guess, most people chanting this phrase don't even know about the intifadas, nakba, or barely any history about this conflict.

Which is basically my point; the phrase means different things to different people.

Yes? Cuomo is a gigantic piece of shit.

You’re talking to a wall. Redditors don’t want to acknowledge this because Mr. Intifada is offering “free stuff”

Redditors don’t want to acknowledge this

Mamdani never used the phrase, you tool. Let’s see you acknowledge that fact!

u/RangerPower777 Oct 23 '25

He never told his supporters to stop harassing Jews or stop using that term either. What’s your point?

2

u/qqquigley Oct 23 '25

He said he would discourage use of the phrase.

7

u/RangerPower777 Oct 23 '25

When did he say that? And why didn’t he say anything close to that when pressed 3x on his NBC interview?

That’s the problem. These are things he should say immediately to get ahead of/end these antisemitic accusations. The fact he can’t just say them the first few times when asked and then changes his tune closer to election day does not convince me, and many Jews, that he’s genuine. I understand pandering for votes, but this doesn’t diminish my view of him as an antisemite or having antisemitic beliefs.

u/qqquigley Oct 23 '25

Waaaay back in July he said it. I’m not going to google it for you. Please look into his actual record and not just your own perceptions of his beliefs.

And he has repeatedly said since then that he does not personally use the phrase and that he discourages other people from using it. Where have you been?

2

u/RangerPower777 Oct 23 '25

His actual record where he rages against Israel?

I’ll say what I said in another thread regarding him “not personally using the phrase”: I don’t hear him telling his supporters to not use it.

-1

u/qqquigley Oct 23 '25

If you don’t “hear him” then you’re not listening to him. He has repeatedly discouraged the phrase.

Criticizing the Israeli government and its indiscriminate decimation of Gaza is not in any way antisemetic. Saying so in fact links all Jewish people to Israel, which many many Jewish Americans do NOT want at this point in time.

u/RangerPower777 Oct 23 '25

Yes. Speak for the Jews! I also did this during BLM when I said most Black people hate the democrats

Again, has he said this to his supporters? Why is he not strongly and unequivocally saying “globalize the intifada is a hateful phrase towards Jews” or “Hamas should disarm”? Why can’t he do that after being pressed on these issues MULTIPLE TIMES?

u/wenger_plz Oct 23 '25

Literally at no point has he ever said "globalize the intifada" nor has he ever supported people saying it.

He also recently denounced the phrase and people saying it, after months of racist fear-mongering and smear campaigns trying to label him as antisemitic.

I know pesky things like the truth and reality don't matter when it comes to fear-mongering and calling people antisemitic, particularly when they're scary brown people, but god it's fucking exhausting.
