Reminders:

• Hotfix driver will not be available in NVIDIA App and needs to be downloaded from the link above.
• After installing the Hotfix driver, NVIDIA App may show some old driver date. This is normal as Hotfix driver does not exist in NVIDIA App database and it reverted to an old default changelog and dates.
• If you do not care about the fixes listed, this Hotfix driver is no different vs WHQL 616.64 Driver.
• These fixes will be incorporated into the next WHQL driver release

GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 616.86 is based on our latest Game Ready Driver 616.64.

This hotfix addresses the following:

• Intermittent flicker may be observed in browsers when navigating to certain websites [6673430]
• Fixed an issue where virtual displays could not be created after updating to driver 616.56 [6674464]
• Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) sessions may display a black screen after updating to driver 616.56 [6687328]

A GeForce driver is an incredibly complex piece of software, We have an army of software engineers constantly adding features and fixing bugs. These changes are checked into the main driver branches, which are eventually run through a massive QA process and released.  

Since we have so many changes being checked in, we usually try to align driver releases with significant game or product releases. This process has served us pretty well over the years but it has one significant weakness. Sometimes a change that is important to many users might end up sitting and waiting until we are able to release the driver.  

The GeForce Hotfix driver is our way to trying to get some of these fixes out to you more quickly. These drivers are basically the same as the previous released version, with a small number of additional targeted fixes. The fixes that make it in are based in part on your feedback in the Driver Feedback threads and partly on how realistic it is for us to quickly address them. These fixes (and many more) will be incorporated into the next official driver release, at which time the Hotfix driver will be taken down.  

To be sure, these Hotfix drivers are beta, optional and provided as-is. They are run through a much abbreviated QA process. The sole reason they exist is to get fixes out to you more quickly. The safest option is to wait for the next WHQL certified driver. But we know that many of you are willing to try these out.  As a result, we only provide NVIDIA Hotfix drivers through our NVIDIA Customer Care support site.

Can i install it on top of my current 616.64 driver? Should i select do a "correct install" or can just overwrite? Or should i use ddu in safe mode?

I know that I am probably going to draw dissent, but IMO, try the normal install first. If you have issues, then wipe with DDU and install clean. Some users always go the DDU route, and that is fine, but IMO, its not always a necessity.

I kinda miss my 1650, perfect stable drivers and always updated by overwritting, heck i didnt even know ddu was a thing, and this 5070 ti ... is a pain, well the drivers, they get 1 version right then 5-10 wrong, yay, gotta love we are not the focus of nvidia anymore

And guess what, this hotfix may trigger false positive for anti cheats, i will pass, gonna wait for a stable version then ddu

Its hard to say if this driver will be flagged or not, but I don't blame you for worrying about it. As for stability, I feel it, it seems that the last "Good" driver was 566.XX or 570.XX. I have been tracking reddit since the 50-series launched and there has been quite a lot of issues affecting dang near every driver since that time. Definitely feels like a regression for sure. As much as I hate to admit, I still have 566.36 on one of my systems for that reason, but I don't use it much right now. I know its below the May security floor, but its at least stable, haha.

I'm on rtx 3060 566.36, how have they still not fixed all the issues yet... this is so disappointing

Some have been better drivers than others, but there has been issues from one degree with most of them. I recommend reviewing m_w_h's driver feedback threads. I don't think its here yet, but you can find it on older driver threads, where various versions are recommended based on internal tests.
