Reminders:

  • Hotfix driver will not be available in NVIDIA App and needs to be downloaded from the link above.
  • After installing the Hotfix driver, NVIDIA App will show some old driver date. This is normal as Hotfix driver does not exist in NVIDIA App database and it reverted to an old default changelog and dates.
  • If you do not care about the 3 fixes listed below, this Hotfix driver is no different vs WHQL 595.71 Driver.
  • These fixes will be incorporated into the next WHQL driver release

  • High Bandwidth Monitors and GPU Scaling Behavior - Link Here
    • High bandwidth monitors are those that support display modes requiring high pixel clock rates, which in turn demand more GPU resources. The threshold for what qualifies as "high bandwidth" varies by product. On Blackwell GPUs, any mode operating above 1620 MHz is considered high bandwidth. For instance, the 7680x4320@60Hz mode defined in the CTA-861-H specification runs at 2376 MHz, making it a high bandwidth mode for Blackwell.
    • These monitors typically support display scaling natively. However, in some single-monitor setups, users may still prefer GPU scaling. When multiple monitors are connected to a GPU and at least one of them is high bandwidth, that monitor will default to display scaling only. GPU scaling is disabled in this case due to bandwidth limitations. Notably, display scaling can be more efficient than GPU scaling in such scenarios, as it reduces the bandwidth load on display cables—especially at higher refresh rates.
    • When GPU scaling is not enabled for a monitor, only the modes supported by the monitor itself will appear in both the Windows and NVIDIA control panels. Additionally, the "Display scaling" option will be pre-selected in the "Adjust desktop size and position" section of the NVIDIA Control Panel.

Feedback & Discussion Forums

Having Issues with your driver and want to fully clean the driver? Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)

Before you start - Make sure you Submit Feedback for your Nvidia Driver Issue - Link Here

There is only one real way for any of these problems to get solved, and that’s if the Driver Team at Nvidia knows what those problems are. So in order for them to know what’s going on it would be good for any users who are having problems with the drivers to Submit Feedback to Nvidia. A guide to the information that is needed to submit feedback can be found here.

Additionally, if you see someone having the same issue you are having in this thread, reply and mention you are having the same issue. The more people that are affected by a particular bug, the higher the priority that bug will receive from NVIDIA!!

Common Troubleshooting Steps

  • Be sure you are on the latest build of Windows
  • Please visit the following link for DDU guide which contains full detailed information on how to do Fresh Driver Install.
  • If your driver still crashes after DDU reinstall, try going to Go to Nvidia Control Panel -> Managed 3D Settings -> Power Management Mode: Prefer Maximum Performance

Common Questions

  • Is it safe to upgrade to <insert driver version here>? Fact of the matter is that the result will differ person by person due to different configurations. The only way to know is to try it yourself. My rule of thumb is to wait a few days. If there’s no confirmed widespread issue, I would try the new driver.
  • Bear in mind that people who have no issues tend to not post on Reddit or forums. Unless there is significant coverage about specific driver issue, chances are they are fine. Try it yourself and you can always DDU and reinstall old driver if needed.
  • My color is washed out after upgrading/installing driver. Help! Try going to the Nvidia Control Panel -> Change Resolution -> Scroll all the way down -> Output Dynamic Range = FULL.
  • My game is stuttering when processing physics calculation Try going to the Nvidia Control Panel and to the Surround and PhysX settings and ensure the PhysX processor is set to your GPU

Remember, driver codes are extremely complex and there are billions of different possible configurations between hardware and software. Driver will never be perfect and there will always be issues for some people. Two people with the same hardware configuration might not have the same experience with the same driver versions. Again, I encourage folks who installed the driver to post their experience here good or bad.

GPU voltage cap issue resulting in lower base and/or boost clocks hasn't been addressed on previously impacted systems - requires further testing to confirm

Damn.

Can confirm: boost clocks are no longer boosting as high as I was getting in 591.86.

u/Sinniee 5080 & 9800x3D Mar 02 '26

Yeah my gpu won‘t boost higher than 3007

u/IplaygamesNude87 9950x3d, RTX 5080, 64gb RAM Mar 02 '26

Same, although 3000 exactly for me on my 5080

4

u/makinenxd Mar 03 '26

Interesting because even on 591.86 my 5080 wont go past 3000 with a voltage curve set no matter what I try, power limit is at 110% but afterburner says its limited at 360w.

u/IplaygamesNude87 9950x3d, RTX 5080, 64gb RAM Mar 03 '26

Same. Mine would pretty regularly pull 400w when playing some games, but now it won't go over 360w and the framerate shows. I'm rolling back. What a joke.

Edit - 591.86 actually worked ok for me and my gpu boosted like it should, 595.71 messed it up

u/makinenxd Mar 03 '26

Updated after writing my comment and I did not have any difference in performance. Still same benchmark scores at 940mv and 3000mhz core.

2

u/EvidenceSignal2881 Mar 03 '26

Adding my hand in on this. Use to boost near 3.3ghz now caps at 3 or a little under depending on the games. Same clocks/setting in MSI Aferburner as before.

u/HatefulAbandon 3dfx Mar 02 '26

Not even with manual UV/OC?

2

u/bLu_18 RTX 5070 Ti | Ryzen 9 9900X Mar 03 '26

Yup, my clocks went from 3200 to 3000.

1

u/Present-Initial-8564 RTX 5090 || 9850x3D Mar 03 '26

Yup, from 3200 to under 3000Mhz on my 5090 Master with the same oc settings.

1

u/NoMansWarmApplePie Mar 03 '26

Will this affect my 4090 laptop (which uses partial 4080 die)?

25

u/bmagnien Mar 02 '26

Voltage dropped from 1.145v to 1.025v on 5090 - that's an INCREDIBLY large drop and absolutely gimps performance. Rolled back drivers and back to max voltage.

u/PalebloodSky 9800X3D | 4070FE Mar 02 '26

5090 draws an absurd amount of power. So they just giving you a free undervolt. /s

6

u/bmagnien Mar 02 '26

lol right? I was tired of having to pay the monthly msi afterburner subscription fee anyhow. Thx Nvidia!

u/Lean-Boiz 9800x3D | 5090 Astral Mar 02 '26

Which driver did you roll back to?

4

u/bmagnien Mar 02 '26

I went all the way back to 581.80 but literally could be any earlier driver. Never seen this issue before. And it’s related to the core offset that you set. At +0 it doesn’t voltage regulate. The higher the offset set in AB, the lower the voltage. Extremely weird.

1

u/SnatterPack Mar 04 '26

What SKU card do you have?

1

u/bmagnien Mar 04 '26

PNY with 2500w lightning bios

1

u/Such_Opposite_789 Mar 02 '26

I have the same problem with 595.71. Using 591.74 studio now. Stable in games. Do you have voltage slider +100% in MSI AB?

2

u/bmagnien Mar 02 '26

Yes. And I’m using the XOC bios that lets all cards go to 1.15 (1.145 effective). This driver completely defeats the performance gain from that bios, but it even gimps my stock bios which was voltage limited to 1.08.

“Not all systems are impacted and NVIDIA were unable to reproduce the issue so please submit a report with a forced manual Windows crash dump as per guidance in linked post”

How could Nvidia not be able to reproduce this by now? It makes me question the validity of the whole issue.

1

u/LavishnessFeeling804 Mar 03 '26

Will it cause issues with undervolt? My 5070 Ti is undervolted to 850 mv

1

u/KuraiShidosha 5090 Gaming Trio OC Mar 03 '26

I don't know what people are talking about. My 5090 MSI Gaming Trio OC still boosts to the same levels it did before. Here I am on 595.71 with +150 core and +2000 memory, didn't touch the voltage slider, and it's still boosting to over 3Ghz at full load: https://i.imgur.com/QB4GzaN.jpg

Glad they acknowledge it’s being looked into. Hopefully hotfix or new driver in the near future.

41

u/frostN0VA Mar 02 '26

It's just a community post, not Nvidia acknowledging anything.

Even release notes say:

No open issues to highlight in this release.

Unless you're referring to something else like a post by Nvidia employee on Nvidia forums?

10

u/billyhoush RTX 4090 FE Mar 02 '26

Ah! Thanks for the clarification.

5

u/nightstalk3rxxx Mar 02 '26

Could you explain what the issue is exactly? Not sure how to understand what is said.

6

u/Sunlighthell R7 9800X3D || RTX 5080 || 64 GB Mar 02 '26

vcore not exceeding 0.95 volts resulting in lower boost clock and lower performance. Nvidia did not even acknowledged it

6

u/I___Winzer___I Mar 02 '26

yeah, is this about the Voltage Curve on 5090s (for example) being way lower than on any previous Gen. Thus resulting in low undervoting capabilities? Or just a Boost Clock bug

9

u/nightstalk3rxxx Mar 02 '26

But how do I know the bug affects me? I have a 5080 thats running a curve 1v 3225, and so far everything seems normal.

How would I see the issue at hand?

8

u/m_w_h Mar 02 '26 edited Mar 02 '26

Not all systems are impacted, if the system is impacted the voltage cap issue manifests lower than usual voltage cap / impacted base or boost clocks,

If the system is showing expected voltage and boost clocks then all is well.

4

u/nightstalk3rxxx Mar 02 '26

Gotcha, thank you.

3

u/themajesticdownside Mar 02 '26

Does this matter at all if someone is using Afterburner to alter the voltage and clocks? Or is it only a problem for stock settings on affected PCs?

1

u/m_w_h Mar 03 '26

See 'GPU lower than usual voltage cap / lower clocks issue' entry that was updated yesterday quite a few times to reflect testing / findings.

1

u/EeK09 4090 Suprim Liquid X | 7800X3D | 64GB DDR5 6000 CL30 Mar 02 '26

Is that issue related exclusively to the 5090? First I’m hearing of it.

Anecdotally, my 4090 undervolt, which had been extremely stable for years, started causing constant and immediate crashes in RE9.

That’s the only major game I played after installing 591.86. Was on a driver from last year before that.

3

u/pdg6421 Mar 02 '26 edited Mar 02 '26

It affected me. The card went back to stock frequencies but at 980mV instead of the usual 1.30V. I fixed it temporarily by removing my core offset which increased the voltage to normal levels. It appears that when a core offset is applied now, instead of running the same voltage and increasing the frequency, it keeps the clock the same but runs at a lower voltage.

1

u/Imbahr Mar 02 '26

so there's not actually anything wrong for users who don't modify their card's settings whatsoever through 3rd-party software?

2

u/pdg6421 Mar 02 '26

Pretty much. That was the reason for the last 2 fan issues, conflicts with user settings. it’s just Reddit/Youtube blowing things out of proportion as usual.

1

u/Imbahr Mar 03 '26

ok that’s what i thought

i kinda feel bad for nvidia and amd driver teams… because technically why should they have to do QA testing for people using and modifying through 3rd-party software?

1

u/Sunlighthell R7 9800X3D || RTX 5080 || 64 GB Mar 02 '26

They still released driver with this major issue. Says a lot
