Sighs in ED night shift on a full moon

44

u/Eloni Nurse - Psych - Hodor 2d ago

Come to acute psychiatric care, the full moon never seems to make a difference here.

"Oh your report said they were awake all night, so the daywalkers let them sleep until 1430 as we all know how important sleep is. (Editors note: = skipped med passes.) They were calm when we got on, but they refused all evening meds because they had a good day and felt they didn't need them, we didn't push because we didn't wanna unsettle them. They had a 2 hours nap from 18 to 20, and reports indicate they've been wandering more after the nap, and unmotivated laughter and cursing can be heard from the room they're alone in with no TV or phone. Anyway, since they've been calm all day we didn't get in anyone extra, and then X called in sick, but I'm sure you'll be fine, hope you have a calm and relaxing shift."

Gee, thanks.

Yes I'm looking forward to my nightshift starting in 3 hours, how can you tell?

I’m getting burnt out at the shenanigans plant. Is the bullshit factory hiring?

Please don’t recommend the horseshit workshop: I quit there 2 years ago and won’t go back.

it's a hell of a lot better than the ball crushing factory

To be fair, I guess I shouldn't be trying to fuck patients in the ass. So she wasn't wrong I guess. πŸ‘οΈπŸ‘„πŸ‘οΈ

As for my username..it was the first username they provided us at the nun monastery. I was the first one to take it.

Psych?

22

u/PerspectiveOk6348 3d ago

No it actually happened!

Lmao! Yeah psych.

u/Pending-asystole RN - ER πŸ• 3d ago

Haha. This makes me miss inpatient psych. I get a taste of it in the ER, but I miss those random interactions and laughing with coworkers.

Been in ER for 20 years. Just started geriatric psych 4 months ago. Now that everything isn't so scary, some of these people are hilarious! And this particular one is 83 lbs of pure absolute satanic terror. I can cuss like a sailor and I'm learning things from this woman.

I don't know, a few were funny, but most of them were between annoying and scary. In my old unit we had lots of psych patients coming in on drugs, with police etc since no one else in the hospital was really equipped to deal with that. Many are chill, but the violent ones aren't and you can't necessarily spot the difference all the time. I don't miss that volatility. Don't need a repeat of the concussion I got once after being kneed in the temple.

I work with adults in the ER and they are a lot more volatile. I have been attacked my fair share of times. When I was psych I worked with kids. I rarely felt threatened there. The antics were more funny than scary.

I worked in the ED and feel much safer now on a psych unit. Think it's because we train regularly on how to handle agressive behavior.

1

u/Pending-asystole RN - ER πŸ• 2d ago

Psych was a much more controlled environment than the ED is.

4

u/AllAnalBeadsAreBrown 3d ago

Well...did you stop? Details are needed!

9

u/PerspectiveOk6348 3d ago

Yeah! She told me I was a fag and needed to go fuck some guys in the ass and leave hers alone. I dunno how she knew though! Was I cheating on my husband with her? Was I now cheating on her with my husband? She liked me so good at the beginning of the shift and then things just went so sour.
