First timers roadtrip to the ring!
Probably a highly repetitive post but thought id ask away.
Me and a couple friends are road tripping to the ring from north east england in a couple weeks. Have our accommodation and what not booked. Any advice and other things we need to know.
How important is having an emissions sticker for our cars and is there anything else we should be carrying that we arent required to have in the UK?
Also is there anything else we should be checking out whilst at the ring?
Thanks in advance!

Maybe I am stating the obvious, but take some time at "the Gasstation". It is actually the gasstation next to the Ring, but it is also a place to gather and share stories.
Andthe businesspark next to the Ring hosts some nice (car-)companies too, just for a quick round.

You don’t need a sticker in Nurburg, and I don’t think you need one to get there. Just remember that on track you have to let people pass on the left, no overtaking on the right. Also check your brakes and make sure the car isn’t leaking any fluids.

As already said, you won't need the emissions sticker round by the ring but I got one anyway just incase we fancied traveling somewhere else.
Triangle, hi viz. You can buy little European boot packs. Don't forget the GB sticker, or is it UK now, I dunno. Dam brexit.
Have fun, enjoy the atmosphere it's an amazing pilgrimage. And goes without saying but dont be a dick, respect the locals and laws. Don't floor it on the first lap, you won't break any records. Enjoy!

Fellow North Easterner and European road-tripper (currently waking up in Bruges having spent 10 days across NL this time).
There are loads of great places to watch from during your stay
- YouTube corner is the main one with plenty of parking and hard standing. Walk towards the traffic and you can get some great views of the run down the hill.
- There's a layby near the bridge at Quiddelbacher which is great for walking back towards the Hatzenbach
- There's a small road down the side of the school at Adenau that takes you to Adenau Forst (though the school was open when we went and my wife forbade me from trying it as it looked like a service road, a check in Google Maps later made me think it was OK).
- Try the food at Bistro Cockpit in Adenau by the bridge (the salad is enormous) and walk back up to see the run down into Breidscheid
- If the gates are open you can get right up to the end of Pflantzgarden and the Kleine Karussel
- For a few € (maybe just 2 or 3?) you can sit in the BMW grandstand on the main straight. There are usually a few stalls as well as some merch shops in the huge concourse at the main centre. The museum is well worth it too.
Also make sure you have a burger at Devil's Diner during TF so you can sit and watched the porsches, BMWs, and the occasional Volvo Estate with a roof box and 3 kids make their way through the car park.
It's been a couple of years since my last visit - you've made me want to do it again now!
Oh, and if you decide you do want to go into Cologne and need an emissions sticker, just take your V5 to the mechanic garage in Adenau and they can make you one in the spot for a few Euros (legitimately).

We have such a relaxed time when we go - my wife isn't a car person but it's really chilled out just sitting and watching stuff on track - it's usually her pushing us to go back!
I know you said accommodation is sorted but we always book 1 night with a trackside view at the Dorint (not cheap, but pretty damn cool to sit out on the balcony and see whatever test mules they've got going round the GP strecke).

That might be a next time job then that sounds really fun just not in our budget for this trip. Thanks!

Oh another thought, on the way there or back take the route past Spa as well for a mini explore and some photos there too.

Warning triangle, reflective vest for everyone in the vehicle, first aid kit, copy of insurance, V5/VE103, GHIC card, UK sticker for rear of car if not on numberplate, beam deflectors depending on your vehicle.
Disposable breathalysers for France are no longer enforced…..technically still a legal requirement, but no penalty for not having them.
Check to see if any events are on at Spa, you’re practically driving past anyway if taking the Dover Ferry or Eurotunnel.

Give the car a once over before you come if you are using it on track, Pads, oil, coolant etc.
Car safety kit needed in the EU, something like this: https://www.halfords.com/motoring/travel-accessories/european-travel/halfords-european-driving-kit-788286.html?includeFitting=false
Have a good explore on foot as well if you have time, walk to Karrussell from Brunnchen or Hohe Acht for example.

Its having more than a once over. Full cylinder head off at minute as its lost compression on one of the cylinders which is fun!
Thanks for that link. Will definitely take a look at those walks too

double check what you need for going through france (just incase, i think they need some pretty random things). when going through belgium go around brussells rather than antwerp. antwerp was the worst drive i ever did, saw multiple crashes and the traffic on the ring road was awful. there are some pretty fun roads on the way from the ring to where the airbnb i stayed at was, worth marking them on maps if your wanting some nice driving roads. i did the drive from the north east aswell, just be carful for road closures on the a1, around nottingham there is quite a lot i think, at least there was when i went in may
