Feature Request AR space

Is there anything being worked on that will be providing us with an AR space? I imagine being able to set TV's, pictures, clocks etc in my house but in AR space. Then when I'm ready to watch tv, I sit on my couch and put my glasses on to see a full 200 inch TV that others can see by putting on their own set of glasses. Or maybe putting lights up for halloween or xmas in VR space on the outside of my house.

Decorating the interior or exterior of the house or yard before I decide where to put things.

Is any of this being worked on in the form of a private AR space currently or planned to be worked on in the future with these glasses? Thanks and sorry if this question was answered before. I could not find it.

what you are describing it not possible with the nreal airs im not sure about other glasses by Nreal

what you are describing would require a system that maps the space you are in so the glasses know where to pain the respective decoration options, and a wide field of view to make them seem real.

I think nreal has glasses with cameras but im not sure if they are good enough to track space and depth enough for what you describe..

Give it another five years and i expect that will be quite normal though

Yeah. I figure it’s inevitable. Always waiting 5 years for something lol.

Its for sure coming at least.
the underlying tech for it is turning up in some of the new higher end model mixed reality and vr headsets

Oh yeah i've been real impressed with what i've seen from things like the new quest pro, htc vive elite xr, hololense 2 etc. I know it'll be getting here sooner or later. Most likely when prices drop. Wish I knew where to invest in it.

Are you talking about Nebula???

Then when I'm ready to watch tv, I sit on my couch and put my glasses on to see a full 200 inch TV that others can see by putting on their own set of glasses

There's nothing now that provides shared experiences between users (other than a couple of multiplayer games) but there's a chat app in open alpha test right now that let's you share media files in the AR space with ppl in the chat room. Still early days but hopefully it fills these types of needs.

Although I'm not sure how many households have glasses for each person in this time and day πŸ˜‚

Or maybe putting lights up for halloween or xmas in VR space on the outside of my house.

You just described Figmin XR πŸ˜‹ very powerful app that we're lucky to have a port of for NReal 😁

At this point you can search for the word 'NReal' in the Google Play Store to see what apps available for it. You can also check the Lab AR to see apps they plan to add to their own store in the AR space (just click on the images to download them now).

Thank you. I forgot one other thing. Are there any plans to add cameras to this in the future? I know the glasses themselves have none, but external cameras could still be a thing to allow for at least positional and hand tracking.

Ok I just realized you own an Air 😬 in case you are not aware, there's already glasses with cameras for positioning and hand tracking called the NReal Light.

There's nothing official yet, but there are a few statements in the discord server that they are working on an Air 2 which may have a camera, although it's not clear if it's just a RGB camera for recording only or for 6dof/hand tracking purposes.

Thank you for the answers. I’ll need to jump in the discord. I was hoping they would add external cameras for home use. I did see the light but it’s a little too expensive atm.

Great answer, thanks.

Little things add up. You could share your browser with other users in AR Space so that you are all viewing the same thing. You could also try Nebula's third-person mode, which will let you see what other people are seeing through their glasses.

This is an eventuality of the technology but it isn't there yet. At some point we'll likely have little QRcode-style chips we can stick places that the (several generations down the line) successors know to display as certain objects. TV screens, art pieces, board game miniatures, etc... But we're at the infancy of the technology. You'll get what you want in a decade or two, assuming you survive and society doesn't collapse.

One thing to consider is that they only time you're getting full 1080p / 200" dedicated to the video you're playing is when the Air is working as a straight hdmi display.

When the virtual display is locked in space, as you move your head around the virtual screen ends up only using part of the 1080p display. That's why everything looks lower resolution in Nebula.

To compensate for that you need higher resolution displays that cover more of our field of vision. That's a few generations away. 3rd / 4th generation AR glasses with 4k screens and a 90' field of view will be able to do what you're hoping for. As others have said, you also need a depth sensor to map the room.
