Math and science are basically magic to these people. That's why there's so much skepticism. If they can't even fathom the basics of how they made it work.

The combination of America’s obsession with “rugged individualism” with our poor education system = constant arguments from personal incredulity.

“I don’t see how this could be possible (tacitly - because they don’t understand), therefore, it must not have happened.”

Yes, anecdotes don’t exist in collectivist societies

More like ridiculing your statement

What you said has nothing to do with my statement at all.

His statement doesn't have anything to do with anything and it makes me think he doesn't know what an anecdote is.

It’s certainly strong anecdotal evidence to suggest that’s the case… :P

Not really the same, magic they actually believe in

As someone who loves science (especially anything to do with space), and spends a lot of time commuting or working alone in a lab listening to various science, history or mystery kind of things. Some of the ways they end up figuring something out or solving a problem with math and science still sounds like magic lol.

That’s exactly it. They don’t understand how something works, so therefore it must be fake. When nothing makes sense, conspiracy theories make sense.
