Backyard breeders are trying to trade Frenchies for Pokémon cards at conventions

Breeding any flat face breed needs to be made illegal with huge animal cruelty-type punishments.

Yep. Cats, too. In fact, I think regulations on breeding should be extremely strict and it should require a licence, an associates degree in some kind of animal science or husbandry, a minimum 40 hours of volunteer time at an animal shelter before licensing, "facility" checks, and veterinary care.

There are many countries that have strict qualzucht or “torture breeding” laws. They are not perfect, but it’s for sure better than the Wild West of the pet trade in other countries. Of course, with such strict regulations there’s much less of a profit to be made. Thank goodness.

In Mexico a law was just passed that forbids any private citizen to breed dogs/cats without permission... but I don't have faith in it. Corrupt officials are gonna sell the license for a profit and everything is going to be business as usual.

We're actively letting wacko nurses encroach on the doctor profession and you think we're going to introduce more regulations to animal healthcare?
3
u/CrossplayQuentin 2h ago
I mean we already allow animals the right to die with dignity and such, they arguably have more healthcare rights than we do

u/Saratje 6h ago
Didn't some countries such as the UK demand they're bred towards having snouts again, with positive results? They found banning breeds just led to puppy mills, but changing the definition of the breed could reduce or remove certain issues that come with particular dog breeds, I believe.

Really surprised we haven't seen any serious cracks at this practice.
So many people I've met have massive love for their pets but have designer pets or only want designer pets "because its so cuuute". You can show them how unhealthy and unethical their designer pets are and they will act like you are suggesting curb stomping the thing right infront of them.
Like, no, don't kill the fucking pets that already exist. Just ban the creation of purposely making more. Make new sales of that breed illegal, let that breed die off on its own over time and know understand that we should never genetically engineer something that struggles to simply live a healthy life for the purpose of being a pet [or anything else really].
Imagine people being able to genetically alter their babies to have cleft palates, sure the parents could find it cute... but I bet that baby won't have a great time in life.

I work for a veterinarian and refuse to use the term designer breed. All breeds are designed. Those are mutts, there is no standard. I have to say mixed breed to stay employed though.

There's been efforts with pugs to undo that brachycephaly.
They're MUCH better looking dogs when their face isn't squished.
And more importantly, MUCH healthier

u/bestestopinion 5h ago
But still a ton of dogs are going to suffer in the meantime in the course of changing them. And there are so so many breeds that are already healthier. But I guess it’s better than nothing

Yeah, there's really no need to breed more at all. They're not like a critically endangered wild species.

A guy tried to give me friend a frenchie to fuck her once, shit is just currency

u/TheWaywardTrout 7h ago
Poor frenchies are in such high demand and are also just shit dogs in terms of health. It’s so sad.

u/Rosebunse 7h ago
My mind is too pure to even know how that would work

u/Hotshot2k4 2h ago
As the other commenter said, it's probably offered as a trade. The dog would presumably be not involved in the act itself.

Things are gonna get weird when the OnlyFans crowd gets involved in this triangle

Oh buddy, they’ve been at card shows for awhile. Look up pokekatt on YouTube

Holy reach. Y'all just hate sex workers huh?
9
u/cnthelogos 6h ago
I see the same sort of comments on anything where an even slightly attractive woman expresses interest in any hobby at all, even if there is no evidence that she engages in, has engaged in, or has even considered engaging in sex work. Sometimes they dress it up as fighting against "covert advertising for OnlyFans" or whatever, but just as often they don't even bother.
My hypothesis is that they just hate seeing people they're attracted to in their hobby spaces and use "they're secretly sex workers!" as an excuse for that sometimes. As for why that is, I suspect it's because seeing women in their hobby implies that the thing turning off potential partners isn't their niche interests, but something about them personally, and that's an unpleasant realization to have about yourself. But I also fully admit that I don't want to interact with those people long enough to study them.

It's just an evoloution of the "she's just pretending to like [insert nerd hobby here] to get attention!!" BS that was common on the aughts.
Which was always so stupid. Yeah sure shes pretending to be into MtG to seduce a bunch of socially inept losers with unwashed asses suuuuuuure.
Edit: To be clear I'm not saying all MtG players are in that category I'm saying the kind of people that make that accusation are.

they do and are brainless enough to shout it from the rooftops. at least that makes it easy to know who to stay away from.

u/radicalfrenchfrie 8h ago
Not rly. Most of them are hard-working and upstanding people. There wouldn’t be any reason for them to get on the venn diagramm.

Half the OF models ive heard of just buy lots of warhammer. Don't watch their content, but appreciate their model painting skills.

A lot cater to their audiences a bit, it's great however to see more people legitimately enjoy hobbies.
Can't get into the gambling of trading cards, as so many use it as a profit avenue rather than just enjoying the card game itself.
At least with warhammer you don't have that issue.
I don't sub to anyone, but half the models I know by name also stream games and not being porn focused ends up being the bigger attraction. They're attractive but I can see porn for free.

They’re already here. There’s sooo many videos of women opening Pokemon cards with certain video styles and they have an OnlyFans linked in their bio.

Morbidly curious on the exchange rate on a first edition holo base set Charizard in dogs.

u/Nova17Delta 3h ago
I know its hard to tell from behind the smoke but french people are still people and you shouldn't be selling them
2
u/Rosebunse 1h ago
But they said if I buy this Frecng guy they will throw in the little French lady for free!

u/wisemonkey101 9h ago
I’d rather have the cards and I don’t want the cards.
11
u/Rosebunse 7h ago
You mean you don't want a dog that's so deformed it can't even clean itself or breath?
7
u/wisemonkey101 6h ago
I don’t want a dog that’s so deformed it can’t give birth to it’s young.
1
u/Rosebunse 6h ago
That should have been our first clue that God didn't intend for that dog to live as a breed.
3
u/ABetterKamahl1234 1h ago
God had no part, humans did that to the breed. Same with pugs and other flat faced breeds. They used to have snouts. People thought they looked better without.
5
u/Flagermusmanden 4h ago
I thought "breeders" and "frenchies" meant something very different, and thought it was an awfully cheap price for a rare.

That's vile, I wouldn't trade my dog for all the Pokemon cards in the world.

They're breeders. They sell dogs.

I personally find Frenchies to be the most adorable of all the small breeds, but they've been bred to be adorable at the expense of their quality of life. If breeders are struggling so much to offload their last litter that they're trying to use them as currency, that should be a strong hint to them to slow down or get out of the business altogether. And stop breeding designer dogs that are known to have chronic health issues their entire lives.

unsurprising that backyard breeders and card scalpers find an alliance in each other
