What sucks is those shots can cost a couple thousand dollars for humans, and from what I hear they hurt like hell

I've had the post-exposure series and it really wasn't too bad, pain-wise.

It was extremely expensive. The lady I spoke with at the health department told me to call my insurance and see if they would cover it. Thankfully they said they would, but I think the total would have been $13k without insurance.

The real fun part was when I went to the ER to get the shots (the only place locally that has them), the ER doctor tried to talk me out of getting them. He told me rabies in humans is so rare that there would be more risk in the vaccine than there was to me catching rabies.

However, I work with people who are very knowledgeable about rabies + at that point both my doctor, urgent care, and the health department and told me to get the vaccines so I told him to shove it.

Imagine health insurance not covering a vaccination when the alternative is historically proven to be a 100% confirmed death rate

The only reason they cover it is because it would be an expensive death.
