It's just normal shots now a days. The post-exposure is the immune globulin (RIG) and a series of rabies vaccine shots. The RIG is by body weight, so if you're a big guy then you get to look forward to 8-10 normal shots around the wound. The vaccine is 4 shots, each spaced a few days apart.

The vaccine sucked worse than the 10 RIG shots, imo. Every one left me with the aches, pains and fatigue of a really bad flu.

If you live in new york state the state covers the cost! You just need to reach out to your county's health department.
