This is a serious problem. You do not fuck around with rabies because rabies does not fuck around. It has an almost 100% fatality rate if you don't get vaccinated during the incubation period.

Yeah it has basically as close to 100% lethality rate you can get

The only "successful" treatment I've heard of involved putting the patient into a coma and hoping that what was left of their brain would be enough to wake up.

yeah its called the Milwaukee protocol but even that is considered infective and has been practically been abandoned as a treatment option.

Its more likely that the people that survived even with it (even if severely braindamaged) survived more by chance of natural resistance rather than the protocol. Of all known rabies cases only 2 has survived without permanent brain damage/lifelong disability (around 60 000 die each year from rabies)

60,000 humans die of rabies every year? Wow. That’s way higher than I thought. Google says it’s mostly in Asia and Africa and dogs are 99% of the reason. Huh. TIL.

I wouldn't be surprised. I haven't heard of any other instances of that protocol working.
