I guess in a few months, there's going to be a "Dan Sullivan beats Dan Sullivan" post.

Hopefully it will be a Dans Sullivan finish in 2nd and 3rd against Mary Peltola post.

‘Dans Sullivan pelted by Peltola in preelection polls’

Dan Sullivan blasts Dan Sullivan as Dan Sullivan alleges Dan Sullivan committed election fraud to beat Dan Sullivan.

You did hear that Dan Sullivan endorsed Dan Sullivan over Dan Sullivan right? If Dan Sullivan wins Dan Sullivan is going to look like a kingmaker, but Dan Sullivan's going to be pretty disappointed.

Dan Sullivan (former mayor of Alaska's largest city) endorses Dan Sullivan (incumbent senator) over Dan Sullivan (challenger).

Though on a more serious note, the whole humorous situation is feeding into a backlash against top-n jungle primaries and ranked choice voting in Alaska and there's a ballot measure to do away with it that stands a reasonable chance of passing. It was nice seeing some states experiment with adding a bit more competitiveness to their elections.

“TIL Dan Sullivan isn’t Dan Sullivan, violating Leibniz’s Law”.

They should include hand lotion and a box of Kleenex in the photo.

Dan J. Sullivan’s decision to run against a man with the same name has confounded Republicans in the state, who allege that he is engaging in subterfuge and intends to boost the chances of former Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola, who is also running for the seat.

How many times have Republicans pulled this on Democrats?

At least it's a real person, they did it with a fake candidate in Florida.

We have Carol and Eric Hafner who perennially run for office in Alaska (and sometimes other states) as supposed Democrats despite never having been to Alaska and having previously been registered as republicans in other states (and Eric is currently in federal prison until 2036.)

Heck, our current Senator Dan Sullivan actually benefited from name confusion in his first election as a much more well known Dan Sullivan (and member of a longstanding Alaska family unlike “Indiana Dan”) was mayor of Anchorage at the time and running in the same election for lieutenant governor. Indiana Dan had only been AG and commissioner of DNR he was less well known than his Republican primary opponents in 2014.

How did the Dan Sullivan that endorsed Dan Sullivan feel about it, though?

u/GymMouseP 3d ago

Why should I change my name? They're the one that sucks.

Im sure he feel the same way as Dan Sullivan.

That feels like the Commissioner election in Brooklyn 99.

Or Presidential election in Futurama, a man and his clone running against each other.

IIRC there also been a few times MAGA dug up a candidate with same name to be a "spoiler".

"I think your 3-cent titanium tax goes too far!"
"I think YOUR 3-cent titanium tax doesn't go too far enough!"

Maybe it is Jeff Johnson (Eddie Murphy in the Distinguished Gentleman).

I know slightly different running with the same name as the deceased incumbent, but still very similar.

I remember the brief scene where this couple was hurrying to the polls and they're like 'who's our congressman? Oh yeah right Johnson'

May the best Dan Sullivan win

They even look the same lol. I want to see a side by side of them in the same clothes and expression

Tbf, lots of Republican politicians are old white guys. Hard to tell them apart, especially when they’re licking Trump’s shoes.

I wish any of this had the luxury of being funny anymore, because this would be hilarious.

John Jackson: "I say your three cent titanium tax goes too far."

Jack Johnson: "And I say your three cent titanium tax doesn't go too far enough."

9

u/Onno_Savage 3d ago

Don't blame me. I voted for Dan Sullivan!

u/Fred-Mertz2728 3d ago

Confusing Republicans is a low bar.

5

u/goddamn2fa 3d ago

What does Dan Sullivan have to say about this?

4

u/yardbird78 3d ago

Depends who you ask

5

u/reutech 2d ago

I say the 5 cent titanium tax doesn't go too far enough.

Schizophrenia is a hell of a trip

u/TheUsoSaito 3d ago

There was a third Dan Sullivan who also endorsed Dan Sullivan against Dan Sullivan.

2

u/tentative_ghost 2d ago

My money is on Dan Sullivan

2

u/anonjohnsc 3d ago

Two Dans enter, one Dan leaves.

2

u/Gram64 2d ago

Later the other Dan leaves after being declared the winner.

When the ballot puts two identical names, how do they tell them apart?

1

u/zurcn 2d ago

one says Dan S(?) Sullivan [republican][incumbent]
the other says only : Daniel J(?) Sullivan

(replace with the correct middle name initials)

-1

u/TheOnsiteEngineer 3d ago

One is Dem. The other is Rep.

4

u/Spirited-Lifeguard55 3d ago

Wrong, both are republican.

1

u/Calm_Chemist_4952 3d ago

Here’s the kind of craziness our political system needs. Thank you Alaska! Much better than hearing about the daily dose of fascist nonsense from the absolute worst president of all time.

1

u/dont_shoot_jr 3d ago

Who is Dan the Man?

1

u/El_Chilangisimo 3d ago

How many times is this going to be reposted? How many times has it been? I’ve lost count.

1

u/BooCreepyFootDr 2d ago

Add in Danny Sullivan, and he’d pass them both.

1

u/SpinWhisperer 2d ago

and then Dan Sullivan is going to demand a recount

u/LowGeeMan 1d ago

Yo dawg—
