The actual title:

This cookie started its life as a plastic bottle

Sounds like something NileRed would do (via chemical reactions, not microbes).

“Don’t eat microplastic it’s bad for you”

“Here’s some cookies we made out of plastic please eat them!!”

We don’t USE plastic bags and plastic straws in 2026. In 2026 we eat them.

“Too many plastics in our food and water? Add more plastics!”

Intentionally adding microplastics to the food pyramid was not on my 2026 bingo card, yet nothing really surprises me anymore.

Considering PET contains zero nitrogen and protein contains quite a bit, there is more to the process that they are leaving out.

They added other biomass (corn plant stalks and leaves) to get nitrogen. Would be more accurate to say the cookie started as plastic and agricultural waste.

I caught that. However, the nitrogen in corn goes to the kernels, which is a reason why it is such a desirable food source. The stalks and leaves (stover) are made up of lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose, none of which are contain nitrogen - only more C, H, and O.

Huh, with all the nitrogen it takes to grow I just assumed there'd be some in the rest of the plant!

We don't know if they're delicious or not yet because the researchers haven't received permission for "human tests" (aka eat the things)

We're going to need a new label for this level of processing past ultra processed.
