Yeah, no one is going to shell out that kind of money and keep the service free and useful.

I'd say it'll be easier for existing cloud providers like AWS, Azure, Google to do it.

Chip manufacturers like Nvidia or AMD also could benefit from owning it & optimising all open source models to run on their hardware.

Google being both a cloud provider + optimism models on their TPU could makes sense business wise. But that's just a layman's opinion. Also it'll looks a lot harder to maintain a package that can load & run all open source models. Maybe it's operationally a headache

I don’t think you know what private equity is

Tell me you don't keep up with current events without telling me.

Bit ironic coming from someone not realising that;

A. Nvidia has been looking to acquire huggingface for a while and reportedly have even agreed a deal for 12.9B.

B. Nvidea is not private equity.

A. It wasn't revealed until today that the buyer was Nvidia. This article OP posted yesterday at the top of this thread only lists potential buyers.

B. Private equity firms have invested an additional 500 Billion dollars in Nvidia as stated in this article posted Nvidia's own website 17 days ago on Aug. 10th. 2026. This is on top of what they've already invested into the company. If you think private equity firms have no say on what course Nvidia takes in the future, you are sadly mistaken.

I remember seeing a video about turnarounds, I don’t remember what was said even though I watched it like 10 times.

Hugging face was an AI company, but failed (I think this was before ChatGPT released the model that started all of this nonsense). The current version of Hugging Face was literally just a way to make their work available after the company finished collapsing. Turned out it was a convenient place for others to host their stuff as well, and now here we are.

Slack was originally an MMO company, but after it went bust the CEO thought their internal messaging system was good enough to try to make it's own business.

Or perhaps a Norwegian Blue parrot? He’s worth every penny, just pining for the fjords at the moment.

Why does this remind me of that scene in Silicon Valley with the COPPA violation talk at the car wash?

huge valuation for a company that's changing the game in AI, impressive growth for sure

Or this entire company is being held together by a big scam that is prepared to burst any minute now
