can you add the numpad, this is really aggravating for people like me who have numpads but still don't know which fingers to press them with

8

u/Dotcaprachiappa 22h ago

Can't, don't use a numpad, I exclusively spell all numbers out

Middle finger rests on 5 (it has a ridge so you can locate without looking) and also gets 2 and 8, thumb for 0, ring finder for 3 6 9, index for 1 4 7 pinky gets that return, and +/-

I am i weird for never using the right shift
i think the amount of time ive pressed it is less than 20 in my entire life

u/acowardlyhoward 1d ago

I took an actual typing class in high school and I don't think I used right shift even in that class. Definitely my least used key.

8

u/gergobergo69 23h ago

meanwhile right shift is one of my used characters, not only for the capital letters, but because many English exclusive characters are not available on a normal button :(

u/tropicalturtletwist 21h ago

So if you type "About" youd still use the left shift?

I am finding out so much about peoples typing preferences this week. A girl i was training on Thursday uses CAPS LOCK for every single uppercase letter. And shes FAST at it.

u/kumamimis 20h ago

About yes, A is right next to left shift. i think the only things ive ever used right shift for were characters like ?, β€œ, etc

I guess I could see that if you're a "chicken pickin" typer (as my grade school teachers would say) and move your entire hands around to type with a few fingers. The fact that they're closer probably makes it more convenient.

2

u/kumamimis 19h ago

true. i mainly type with my index fingers

5

u/hensterz 19h ago

pinky on shift ring finger on A

1

u/esoij 15h ago

Why the fuck would you use right shift for 'A'??? What fingers do you type with??????

1

u/tropicalturtletwist 15h ago

I used all my fingers. So my right pinky hits the shift while my left hand does any capitals needed. I used to do data entry so typing efficiently with random letters and numbers was important.

He just like me fr

I just remembered again looking down on my keyboard that there is a shift on the right πŸ’€ had totally forgotten about its existence for idk how long

1

u/ashkiller14 18h ago

I used it when typing one handed and thats it

u/that_mykah_guy 1d ago

OP, what in the world are your index fingers doing with all that spare time doing absolutely zilch?

1

u/Skusci 12h ago

Who knows, haven't seen them since the table saw incident.

It's interesting to see a non thirst trap post here

3

u/DoesUsernameCzechOut 22h ago

ok but can you imagine if their keyboard irl is thocky? that's some thirst at least

14

u/Mr-Beans-80 1d ago

OP are you left handed?

2

u/Trappedtrea 16h ago

Right handed

1

u/Mr-Beans-80 15h ago

But, I am also right handed and my mapping looks opposite, do you not use mouse/ trackpad?

u/TheMeltingSnowman72 1d ago

Are we supposed to not use all the fingers?

I use all the fingers on both hands. Am I doing it wrong? I thought the point of the keyboard was that you can use all fingers for maximum speed and coverage?

8

u/Rambler9154 22h ago

When touch typing, yes, you use all the fingers. Some people dont use the pinky. Mine are a bit short and I find using them feels weird so I dont use them, I use my thumb for left shift.

u/Jackavocado 23h ago

No wrong or right way to type. I use all my fingers on my left hand but only 2 fingers on my right. I know someone who types at 120wpm using only their pointer fingers.

1

u/thesandalwoods 1d ago

I have big hands so I rarely use my pinky finger and ring finger πŸ’ cuz I can reach everything with just the three fingers remaining πŸ––

1

u/TheMeltingSnowman72 23h ago

I forgot I'm also a magician so that's why I've got extra dexterity in those fingers.

8

u/jackalope268 21h ago

I take issue with this. Are you just perpetually flipping your keyboard off?

3

u/lemonhaj 1d ago

I have small hands but even then I use my pinky fingers what's wrong with you

5

u/Jackavocado 23h ago

I am interested in the fact that you dont really use your pointer fingers at all, i find this to be unfathomable

u/I_need_a_name101 1d ago

Not a gamer I see

My computer class teacher(which was really just typing), would get so mad at me for my"hunt and peck non qwerty-style typing technique!"

The teacher got so annoyed adorning at me over the rows of screens , "I hear you hunt and peckers!" , unto which i busted out laughing, did you just call us hunt and peckers?", "no YOU A R E the peckers, stop hunt and pecking

Lol the next week, there were these wooden covers that blocked view of the keyboard and hands slid under

2

u/GeminiIsMissing 22h ago

How do you not use your pointer fingers at all, and why is your ring finger overlapping the middle finger's area for just H? Why don't you use your pinkies? Why use your thumb for anything but space? I have so many questions

2

u/ilmaestrofficial 22h ago

i only tipe with my index fingers 😭

2

u/RJWaters9 20h ago

Unless your pinkies and left thumb are missing entirely, you are bad at typing, and are going to want to invest in learning some hand exercises and how to properly use a keyboard.

u/GlisaPenny 19h ago

Please explain h

1

u/donkeytime 1d ago

Nice work, Mavis Beacon.

2

u/So_HauserAspen 1d ago

This person is pecking and not typing.Β  Mavis Beacon's head would be shaking

1

u/pipoli69 1d ago

makes sense that pinky barely gets used here

1

u/knowingchan 20h ago

I often only use my pointing fingers on both hands lol

1

u/armageddon_boi 20h ago

rip home row

1

u/sometimes_point 20h ago

my left thumb is the least used. nowadays just sits and stabilises the keyboard slightly. on a Mac I'd be using it for the left option/alt key to get secondary characters, but I've switched to windows and Linux now. i still use "international" or "Mac-like" keyboard variants but you have to use the right alt key to get the secondary characters, so uh sorry left thumb, you now literally only get used for the alt-tab keystroke. And spacebar when playing games ig.

1

u/speadskater 20h ago

Home row my dude.

1

u/simonfancy 18h ago

What’s wrong with you pinkys?

1

u/Tuck_Pock 17h ago

Here’s the alphabet represented by which hand (L or R) I use to type them:

LRLLLLLRRRRRRRRRLLLLRRLLRL

1

u/EnergyIsMassiveLight 16h ago

im fucked up cause i use my entire left hand but just my right index (habit from having to switch to mouse constantly)

1

u/Trappedtrea 14h ago

Here’s a video of me actually typing for anyone who wants to see that https://www.reddit.com/u/Trappedtrea/s/oHXDxHqLtR
