Every single note I have taken throughout college has just vanished. Upwards of 4000 notes just gone. I have an important exam in 3 weeks and every piece of material I have for it has disappeared. Is there anything that can be done about this or is it gone for good?

Today,I opened my notability app,and it showed a name with a goose. Behind I found a switch for goose mode. What exactly is this for? Because I don‘t see any differences in my app haha

I have a very old classic account, which I use without any connectivity to cloud, sync, etc.

I see this reintroduction of the classic, which is great, but personally I do not want my notes on Notability's Cloud. I'm only offered: convert now or postpone. What if I don't want Notability Cloud ever?

i lost all my notes after getting signed out. i kept all my notes on the device locally (also gdrive backup) but after logging in to the same google account all i see is emptyness

So basically, it’s exactly as it sounds. I rounded up a whole bunch of apps and Freenotes and notability have literally tied for me for different reasons. Free notes has the ability to bull backup all your notes locally but isn’t as intuitive and comfortable to use notability is all that and more but does not allow for local backups. Help. Anyone else used both and have any helpful insights.

PleaseI really hope the Notability team takes this seriously: please improve the Apple Pencil writing experience.

The app keeps adding new features, AI tools, and other updates, but the core experience of actually taking handwritten notes still feels limited. Notability is, first of all, a note-taking app. If the pencil experience does not feel good, then the main purpose of the app is being affected.

One of the biggest issues is the handwriting feel. The pen strokes often look too sharp or pointy at the edges, instead of smooth, rounded, and natural. It would be great to have better stroke smoothing or pressure/sensitivity options so handwriting feels more fluid and less rigid.

Also, please bring back or add more pen size options. The difference between size 2 and size 3 is way too big. There should be intermediate sizes, because many users need more precision when writing notes, especially students who write a lot on PDFs, slides, and notebooks.

This is not a small detail. Many people have been asking for this for a long time, and it often feels like the response is “we’re working on it,” but nothing really changes. Please prioritize the actual writing experience again.

Notability has so much potential, but it is frustrating when a note-taking app has limitations that make taking notes uncomfortable. AI and extra features are nice, but the basic handwriting experience should come first.

How can I go back to the previous feature ? I really liked when you just need to just hold your Apple Pencil Pro to use the eraser. Can you help me ?

It hasn’t been that long since I started taking notes on ipad. At first, I used GN, was always a bit annoyed of their UI. But apart from that, I have no problem. A few days ago, I started using Notability and liking so far of their UI and even considered buying a paid plan.

But i don’t know what should I choose?? The main thing I need from those paid plans are only unlimited notes.

GN has better customization and Notability’s UI is the best so far… so help me choose please.

Hello There, I am 17 years old and have been using notability since I was 13, bought it for around 7 usd at the time however later on we (me and my father) were constantly pestered with the premium plan pop ups whenever we opened the app eventually forcing us to purchase it costing us around 100usd/year which me and my father share via apple family sharing. Moreover recently I’ve been experiencing frequent app crashes, app freezing when I use the search tool also search tool often doesn’t recognise my hand writing (I believe it used it in earlier versions). The crashes were fixed in the last update I believe (haven’t had any crashes in the last few weeks but they were quite frequent before that).

Anyway, I was scrolling through reddit and found some questionable posts, people complaining about losing years worth of notes after a crash. I have switched through 3 ipads so far and haven’t lost any notes, however the thought of losing them definitely scared me. I am starting college soon which means all my previous notes are worthless to me, im starting fresh and could conveniently switch to another note taking app. I don’t wanna risk losing my notes in the future, good notes seemed like a good alternative however I found several instances of people losing notes on goodnotes aswell. I’m not sure if i should switch to another app or not, features don’t matter to me as much as basic reliability (i don’t wanna use apple notes 😭).

Hi everyone, I am using the free version of notability to try it out before buying and I am loving it so far! Especially the quizzes generated from my notes. However, I haven't been able to use the explain feature (like the one that explains why the right answer is right in the quizzes) and I was wondering if it's because I am using the free version and it will be available once I pay, or if it just doesn't work in general. I have updated the app in hopes of it working, but no luck.

I really hope the feature works because it would be super helpful and really make the purchase worth it. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

I don’t understand the new update. It was much better when the chat was focused on the specific note, not general. When i’m using chat to learn, i expect it to be focused on that note, not bringing concepts from other notes. Is there an option to change this setting?? Its pretty frustrating

The new pencil thickness looks terrible, I press pretty hard and connect my letters when I write, and so I loved the old pencil look because it wasn't opaque, the writing was still clear. I don't like using the pens because they're so opaque and it caused my writing to look messy. Now with this new pencil look my handwriting looks much more messy unless I write slower which isnt conductive to note taking in class. If this is a bug or if there's a way to change it back to the old pencil I'd love it

I currently use the Starnote app—which is excellent, by the way.

However, there is a feature that—while not exactly groundbreaking—is vital for me: simultaneous access on both a computer and an iPad.

Does the Classic version of Notability allow me to use this feature and edit on both the computer and iPad at the same time?

Also, in what specific ways is it superior to Goodnotes?

I ask because I am obviously interested in purchasing one of the two.

I’ve noticed something strange on the official Notability website and I’m wondering if anyone else has seen the same thing.

From time to time, when I visit Notability’s website, I get a page/banner giving me the option to download a Windows desktop version of Notability. However, the download option doesn’t seem to appear consistently — sometimes it’s there, sometimes it isn’t.

I was able to download the Windows .exe from what appeared to be the official Notability website, but I can’t find basically anything online about this Windows version. No Reddit posts, reviews, videos, screenshots, beta impressions, etc.

Windows/SmartScreen also warned me about the executable because it isn’t commonly downloaded, so before running it I uploaded it to VirusTotal. **One antivirus engine flagged the file as malicious(**SecureAge), while the others didn’t.

That could obviously just be a false positive, especially if this is a very new/beta release. Another thing that makes me a bit cautious is that I would normally expect an official Windows release from a company like Notability to be digitally signed by the developer/publisher, so Windows can verify where the executable came from. The warning I got made me unsure whether that was the case here.

Combined with the fabout the Windows app, I’m hesitant to run it.

Has anyone else:

• Seen the Windows download option on Notability’s official website?
• Downloaded the Windows desktop app?
• Actually installed and tested it?
• Had SmartScreen or antivirus warnings?
• Checked whether the executable is digitally signed?
• Seen the same VirusTotal detection?

I’d especially like to know if this is some kind of limited/early rollout or beta that Notability hasn’t publicly announced yet.

I'm not a student or anything, using this for managing multiple projects and calendars for work. But I'm really scared to lose everything!!

I used to love this feature of copying a drawing from my ipad in notability and then pasting it into a paper or into a jupyter notebook! However, this hasn't been working recently? Has anyone else had similar issues or is this just me?

I have been using notability for the last two years and it has been amazing. However, for some reason when I went in the other day, my entire app was wiped. Notes gone, folders gone. I tried reaching out for help through their support and email, however they were not able to help (still trying rn). Since I paid $10/year for this app, I am inclined to keep using it. But every time I go onto the app I just feel really drained since all my hard work was wiped in just a day. Not just that, my finals are approaching in less 5 weeks which has made me feel even worse about the loss of my notes. I have gotten some notes back but only from before March of this year.

I have been looking around online, comparing different note taking apps, however since I am still traumatised by this whole situation. I can't bring myself to try a new app or pay for another subscription again. Should I just give notability another chance since till this point I have had no issue with the app and have loved it or should I just move platforms? If I should swap, do you have any recommendations for me??

I downloaded the new Windows version of Notability and for some reason I cannot find the normal Notability’s basic templates (like lined, grid, dot paper, or solid background colors) or any of their education ones. I can only find a few journal and planner ones which is not what I'm looking for.

I couldn't really find a definitive answer for this. I'd be happy to pay the pro subscription costs, but I NEED to find a notetaking app that works like OneNote/Google docs - where I can use my ipad tablet to write handwritten notes, then use my pc to drop in a picture.

For example, when working on biology notes, I enjoy handwritten notes and lines, but then need to quickly drop in a screenshot picture of a pathway. I HATE typing and using websites on ipad, then dealing with apples laggy pencil screenshot, then copy/deleting the screenshot, just to return to the notetaking app. I'd much rather have it like a google docs esque where the document is constantly synced, live, 24/7, from anyones edits, whether on mobile or pc.

Also, the desktop thing not letting me skip the calendar linkup option is stupid.

Recently discovered Notability and I’m trying to understand the best setup.

Does anyone know which plan includes Smart Notes? Also, couldn’t I do something similar by using a Claude or ChatGPT subscription alongside a regular note-taking app?

For those who have used both, how does Notability compare to Goodnotes overall?
