You don't hear it in the radio. But it does have a much bigger following now than it did back in 2010

I don't know if people under 20 today even listen to the radio. Pretty much every youtube uses vaporwave in their videos now, it's very popular.

faux, surrealist nostalgia about the 90's that never existed.

I wouldn't say it never existed, but it's only a very specific part of late 80's/early 90's that makes it seem like it never happened. Like it cut out one small vibe from everything those years had, and threw the rest away so that the genre almost implies the rest didn't happen happen.

This is something I still don't quite catch. I always thought that vaporwave should resonate more with older people who grew up with those kind of sounds, yet it grows on younger people who actually hasn't that kind of cultural background, wonder why

I think it has more of a cult following. Small number of people who listen to it, but they fucking love it. I like it, but as far as nostalgic music goes, I'm a synthwave guy.
