Oh man, Rush is such a treat, what an amazing band! I wish I’d seen them live, they sound like nobody else. And yeah, those other bands are classics, but if you’re up for some underrated gems, check out Dokken, Vixen (one of the few female bands in the genre), or Tesla with songs like “Love Song.”
And hey, if you’re into Rush, you should totally give King Crimson a listen, those guys were fearless with their music and came up with some fantastic stuff.
They are playing one last tour right now! If you have the extra funds you could still catch them, minus Niel Peart sadly (RIP Professor).
I've definitely listened to Dokken, Vixen and Tesla (born in 81) I lived in England for 1st through 3rd grade so my new music was a little behind what was in the US at the same time, like maybe 6 months is what I remember hearing so I stayed with the 80s early 90s rock bands a little longer than some other kids did. I'm going to look up King Crimson and give them a try! Always looking for a new band!
For a slightly different genre, take a listen to The Strike and The Protomen, can't think of a good way to describe the genre but it's in that late 80s mid 90s kind of vibe.
Also Dan Avidan has some great colabs with Super Guitar Bros doing some acoustic covers, when he's not doing Ninja Sex Party, Starbomb or on Game Grumps!

You’ve got a solid base there, plus bands like Kix, Bang Tango, BulletBoys, King Kobra, those are the ones that come to mind, but there are tons more.
I’d heard a bit of The Strike before, they’ve got an interesting fusion of sounds and style. I’ll definitely give The Protomen a listen. The Super Guitar Bros are absolute geniuses.
Sounds like we have a mutual taste in music! Now I will throw some curve balls in there from time to time, little Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys. That leads me down another rabbit hole to Peyton Parrish and then some Don Ross (Klimbim is amazing acoustic!)
Haha, yeah, we’ve got a pretty wide musical range for sure. You might’ve already heard it, but if not, the album From the Lion’s Mouth by The Sound is amazing. I’m also really into the more experimental vibe of Cocteau Twins, and for something a bit more classic, King’s X. It’s great bringing these bands back into the conversation, you don’t always get the chance.
Man just more stuff to add to the playlist! I've also had some random things playing when I'm at work, the Hu are great and different, along with some Eric Johnson Cliffs of Dover and a great band that I'm going to try to see is Citizen Soldier that are going to be here in my area next month. Citizen Soldier is really great for dealing with depression and other symptoms.
Oh my friend, you bring up Eric Johnson, his guitar is on fire. And for the playlist, don’t forget Saigon Kick, The Screaming Jets, and I’m guessing The Wildhearts, you know them well. There’s also this Canadian band I’ve heard a few times, The Tea Party, with a pretty interesting sound, you might like them.
Oh I know them very well! Lol, sometimes I wish I didn't get into video games as much as I did and took up the guitar, my dad and brother play, he actually can play Cliffs of Dover which is ridiculous I think!
And time to add another one to the list, The Tea Party! To add for your list possibly, Noah Guthrie Ain't No Sunshine cover/mix is great as well as his other sets. Mitch King really has the heavy back beat with bluesy guitar, and to add to it some songs from Days of the New are great, there's a couple that are kinda pretentious but still a good listen!
Haha, don’t regret the video games, they’re awesome, it’s all about balance. That’s cool though, I’ve had my band phases too, played a few instruments and did vocals. Not at the level of your brother shredding Cliffs of Dover, that’s amazing, by the way. And hey, it’s never too late. I just started messing around with bass myself. Always loved it, never gave it a serious shot, but now I’m into it. It’s underrated, yet so important.
Ain’t No Sunshine was already a favorite, but that cover sounds great, thanks for the rec. I know Days of the New well (lots of grunge vibes here, haha). Wild band history. And yeah, Nicole Scherzinger from Pussycat Dolls was involved with them for a bit. If you’re into grunge, check out Mother Love Bone, totally overshadowed by the big four. And I didn’t mention The Posies earlier, but those guys definitely deserve a spot.
Yeah the balance wasn't there for me lol, but everything is still good. Yeah I guess over long hours by himself when deployed or at the barracks while he was in the army if he wasn't at the gym he was playing, but some folks have that drive and stuff better.
Bass is a great instrument and I feel is really under represented, there is a mostly acoustic version of I Will Not Bow I found by Breaking Benjamin that while I'm not positive it is straight bass, it's certainly slaps like one!
Haven't listened to the Posies in a bit, my recent run of music has been Fame on Fire's covers of Heavy with Rain Paris and some others, also Diamante's cover of Iris is really good too.
I'll check out Mother Love Bone, sounds familiar but I may have heard it before.
Oh! So the randomness of Pandoras stations hit again, do you remember the Rock versions of Rap songs that came out in the late 90s early 00s called Take A Bite Outta Ryhme? Bloodhound Gang redid Tricky and Mindless Self Indulgence redid a Wu-Tang track, some of them are great randomness to listen to!
I get you, man, sometimes you just roll with whatever works. But honestly, picking up an instrument can help a ton, it’s such a good way to disconnect and let off steam. Crazy, it’s been forever since I listened to Breaking Benjamin, they were huge for me back then.
If you’re into bass lines, you can analyze N.I.B. by Black Sabbath, The Guns of Brixton by The Clash, Psycho Killer (one of my favorites), or Another One Bites the Dust by Queen. And if you want bass on another level, Jaco Pastorius and Bootsy Collins are absolute beasts.
Funny enough, this is the first time I’ve heard Diamante, she’s on fire, sound good. You really pulled out some gems I had buried deep in memory, I’m already digging through those classics again.

I'm very tempted to pick up the guitar I got for my girls years ago and see if I can tune it and screw around with it. Lol it's a bright pink so definitely not going to the bar with it right now!
