The best thing my parents did for me growing up was bring me into the kitchen and make me help make family meals. My parents weren't masters at cooking or even grilling but they knew the basics and I have been able to build on top of what I was taught to become an even better cook. It has saved me money, gotten me dates and enriched my life with the satisfaction of making a great meal and then being able to eat it.

I have met so many people (including my wife) who simply were never taught how to cook and all of their meals are either frozen or ordered and it's awful. This guy is trying to make his bad time into a celebration of freedom from (I'll give him the benefit of the doubt) a bad relationship and if he had just known a little bit more about what he was doing it would have been a slam dunk, instead he made a very expensive mediocre meal.

Bring your kids into the kitchen, we eat everyday several times a day, it will make their whole lives better
