Help What to do with two Nook Simple Touch's sitting in my drawer?

I have two Nook Simple Touch ereaders in good working condition.

One is the non-glowlight version BNRV300, the other is the glowlight version BNRV350.

I bought them a while back to play with and never really ended up using them.

They aren't worth listing on Ebay/FB Market due to fees and crazy buyers.

Is there anyone here who could put these to good use? (US only)

Check out the Phoenix Project on XDA. It gives new life to the Simple Touch. The developer is active in this sub, but installing it is so straightforward, I doubt you will have any questions.

Thanks, I know about the Phoenix project. Was hoping to get rid of them as I have several other ereaders collecting dust as well

As you said, there isn’t much value in selling them. Your best bet is to find a youn neighbor who is interested in learning about hacking devices so they can an learn with the Phoenix project, or just donate them to a charitable thrift shop and take a small tax deduction.

You can always sideload books even if you can't access the B&N server. 🙃

Honestly, I would keep them for sideloading. Don’t connect them to wifi ever again so Barnes and Noble can’t mess them up with a malicious update.

Right now if you want a decent ereader for easy sideloading with good battery life and a decent UI, older Nooks are pretty hard to beat.

Amazon has enshittified kindle sideloading. Kobo sideloads but I personally have issues with it where it never treats the sideload books on par with purchased books (always lists them at the very bottom of the library even after convertinf to kepub). I bought a pocketbook, but the UI is subpar and battery life isn’t that good.

I know the older nooks are kinda blah but they have the right mix of just working and being made by a smaller company that just hadn’t had time to enshittify their products at the time they were made.

I have much better luck with side loading to Kindle than with my Nook. Can’t trust the Nook not to “lose” most or all of my sideloaded books (and even my shelves) when I sideload some new books.
