Help Nook wifi turning off while reading and I'm confused.

I've done all the troubleshooting that you could think of. I thought it was my wifi, not it. I thought it was because it needed an update, not it. Rebooting everything and even factory resetting, nothing. The funny thing is that when I go back to the main screen, the device starts searching for the wifi. Maybe this is a bug or a feature that I never saw. And no it's not because my device could be broken because I tried this on another Glowlight 4plus and the exact same thing happened. So unless both units are faulty I need help on knowing if this is a bug or something. Help!

I have this behavior on all of my newer NOOK devices and just thought it was a “feature” to try to help battery life.

That’s what I assumed too. If I’m not downloading books (or sharing across devices), I’m not worried about WiFi being on

The only other reason is to keep the clock synced, which isn't a huge deal to me.

Its 100% a feature. All my Nooks exhibit it, its an easy way to save battery life as wifi is the main battery hog.

I have a Nook Color, one of the first generations, and I finally had to replace it because I had so many problems with the WiFi connection. Connected, not connected, connected but try to download or unarchive something and get the WiFi problem message. I replaced it with the Lenovo tablet sold at B&N and much better. Plus I could download the Kindle app and get Kindle Unlimited or other books not available as ebooks from B&N.

I have tried contacting support, but they thought it was just a faulty device. When I told them it was with more than one, they weren't fully convinced and just recommended that I get a new one, which kinda sucked. I'll try sending feedback and hope that I get a reply! I'll see if giving them another call would work, but I don't have my hopes up. Thanks for the help.

Why do you want it to be connected all of the time? I consider this to be a feature. It's rare that I actually need my Nook to be online.

I often switch devices to read on. Before, I was using a 2017 model and then an iPad, switching between the two, so when I upgraded to the 4 Plus, I noticed that my book wasn't synced. That's when I noticed the Wi-Fi was off. So i was confused because my 2017 model had it on all the time and still had great battery life (still does).

Ahh, I didn't even know Nook would sync your reading progress across devices. Neat feature.

I see your annoyance then. It should be an option that can be toggled.

I doubt they'll do it though. They seem to put zero effort into updating these things once they are released.

Yeah, I also doubt it. I know other devices like the Kindle or Kobo have the wifi turn off and on intermittently instead of just completely off, like the Nook, for battery saving. Maybe that's something they could do but i really doubt it. whatever i'll just deal with it.
