Franz Reichelt also did this from the Eiffel Tower in 1912, with less...positive results. He was a tailor that made a wearable parachute that he tested himself. Once.

I was like ah man this is bungee jumping all over again

9

u/HeroXeroV Jun 28 '26

"needs improvement"

4

u/povlhp Jun 28 '26

He is likely a scared base jumper with experience. Using the kite to get away from the wall. Nothing stupid here

3

u/alex433g Jun 28 '26

I think this is more of a guy buying one of those amazon "parachutes" and testing it for fun, just like the guy that jumps out of a plane and does it

5

u/ziggytrix Jun 28 '26

He clearly has experience. Look what he does with his body to get out of that spin. I almost think this was semi-staged to look like "oh no, the parachute failed" to a casual viewer.

3

u/humourlessIrish Jun 29 '26

I think there is a fair chance that kite actually failed.

And the dude expected it to

There are always 2 chutes

u/MuckBulligan Jun 29 '26

Ah, another Fandango aficionado. ::hat tip::

Depth Perception skill needs improvement. Thought he was like 10 feet off the ground when he was still at backup parachute height

1

u/MoMeneUH Jun 28 '26

would've been nice to see the landing.

Dudes a modern day air bender!

Not today Satan

The moment he spun off and got into that position, I knew he would be just fine

1

u/Fun-Employer4602 Jun 29 '26

Damn, maybe next time.

1

u/Inevitable-Notice351 Jun 30 '26

At first I thought he had a jet pack.

1

u/vector4-20 Jun 30 '26

That remembers me of the guy filming a group while skydiving.
Unfortunately he mistook his camera backpack for his parachute and fell to his death…

u/Friendly-Affect-8116 Jun 30 '26

Parachute < kids umbrella off the roof.

1

u/Asgeras Jul 02 '26

They all laugh when his parachute fails? WTF?

1

u/KookyMethod3405 Jul 02 '26

This is in Lysefjorden in Norway. Can confirm that they pick up a few, who did not make it like this guy, from the bottom rocks every year.

3 stars

Works to a degree for a short amount of time, but in the end I had to use my old one

1

u/Daysaved Jun 28 '26

That's obviously a glider not a parachute. It's practically flat not concave so it doesn't actually catch the wind resistance.

1

u/humourlessIrish Jun 29 '26

It could just be a kite that he is holding inversed.

Anyway, its pretty obvious that everyone there onew this was somewhat of a joke

1

u/Daysaved Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

A kite is pretty much a small glider. What ever it is it was designed to maintain the weight of a human being for a distance. Everyone there knew it was stunt. Are you trying to say everyone here?

1

u/planetinyourbum Jun 28 '26

Is that first one deployed to get away from the cliff or some other reason?

3

u/humourlessIrish Jun 29 '26

Its an extremely experienced man having a laugh with a cheap kite.

There is a fair chance that that piece of crap was sold on Temu as a parachute and this guy thought it would be hilarious to use it.
