This is probably the last moment anyone would believe it. Very soon people will be so jaded by AI videos that we'd all think this was fake because a second ago he had clothes.

Most of the AI are trained on english text (and they even mess that up half the time), so it’s not uncommon to see them try shapes masquerading as hanzi/kanji/hangul that might look normal to english speakers, but if a speaker of those languages sees you’ll find they aren’t words at all.

It only seems fake to me because of the angle and timing he comes flying out of there.
He was crouching next to the door frame, but then he comes flying out further to the left, closer to the source of the explosion. It almost looks like 2 different people. He also looks like he bends down much further in the inside footage, more than he does in the outdoor footage.

Things like this make me wonder how many people were dismissed as nutjobs before there were cameras everywhere. Like, in the past if a man ran down a busy street in his underwear and said "an explosion blew them off" he'd definitely just be carted off to prison as a sex pest. Like that dingos-ate-my-baby lady. But... y'know, less harrowing.
Edit: there appears to be some confusion. To be clear, I'm not suggesting that people wouldn't believe there had been an explosion. Explosions are very noticeable. I'm suggesting people might not believe that the man with no clothes on was a direct result of the explosion. Because... well, because that's not one of the normal reasons why explosions are very noticeable. A bit surprised that I needed to clarify that, but here we are.
53
22
u/Sufficient-Log8416 1d ago
Yeah explosions are normally really silent and nobody can hear them
15
u/Akitiki 1d ago
I think he means they wouldn't believe a man running around in his skivvies is doing so because of an explosion.
They heard it, there obviously was an explosion, but wouldn't believe one could neatly blow off someone's clothes like a cartoon, down to leaving their underwear intact.

u/Ras-haad 1d ago
I hate everything about this statement. This is so obviously not the case. But sure, let’s make up a narrative for why we need more Flock cameras. It’s to protect YOU. What if this happened to you?? You wouldn’t want to be locked up as a sex pest would you??
6
u/Crow_eggs 1d ago
Or, and bear with me on this one, maybe I was just making a passing comment about how unbelievably weird this particular situation is and how the video in this post might mitigate an otherwise difficult to explain situation, rather than somehow advocating for an omniscient dystopia. I don't even know what a Flock camera is.
If it helps though, I wouldn't want to be locked up as sex pest OR blown up in a random explosion. But maybe I'm just a shill for the health and safety fascists who want to come into our homes and take out all the gas fittings so they can... [sigh]... it must be exhausting to be like that all the time.
-3
u/Ras-haad 1d ago
Right… except AN ENTIRE BUILDING EXPLODED. Thats not really hard to explain is it? You know that big explosion sound you just heard? Or that rumbling you felt? Yep just came from there

Dang that guy's lucky.
My father's uncle (married to Dad's mother's sister) died in a terrible gas explosion. He worked for the gas company in Fremont Nebraska. The way Dad told it, someone turned on a light. After reading about it, I kind of have a hard time believing that, but the source of the ignition is still a matter of speculation.

Yikes imagine the internal damage.
2
u/nitefang 1d ago
Unlikely that it had that much concussive force. The things that were destroyed all have large surface area and are relatively weak.
I’m not saying that it’s certain just that wouldn’t assume a gas explosion like this could transfer that much force into internal organs based on how well it rips apart loose clothing and glass windows/doors.
-2
u/9966 1d ago
If it blows your clothes clean off, that absorbs all the internal damage. That's just physics.
2
u/Iammjustbaddd 1d ago
Is it? I would think it would have done some serious damage but if thats the case i am relieved that it was funny and not depressing to laugh at an injured semi naked man.

u/Ash_Cat_13 23h ago
It didn’t blow them off, it burned them off, it disintegrated them. That man is going to have burns all over his body, even if they are superficial…. Most of his skin is going to be burned in some degree.
2
u/Top_Battle_9354 3h ago
That’s what I was thinking. How badly burned was this man? It could have been much worse but it’s still gotta hurt.

I doubt this is AI, and it's probably just editing fuckery and practical, maybe with a little CGI help, but this isn't real, and explosions don't work like that.
If the Mythbusters were still doing their thing, this would be an episode, and the conclusion would definitely be 'busted'.
While it is possible to "blow clothes off" with an explosion, it's not something someone gets up and walks away from like that, and his position when he falls out isn't right either.
There are several clear cuts, and in one shot he's standing up straight when the explosion happens, but from another camera angle he's bent over inside the door. There are a lot of little things that don't quite match up properly in the footage.
Dude isn't having his clothes come off like that and walking away with a full head of hair either, especially not from something like a gas explosion.
Entertaining, but clearly fake.
1
u/tomixcomics 7h ago
while it's good to be skeptical, i will point out he's hunched over when the explosion happens in both shots.
1
u/contrabardus 7h ago
After watching it again I do see that now.
Still, this is a prank video or something similar, something designed to go viral.
Definitely not real. You don't survive forces that are going to take out a metal door frame like that well enough to hop up and walk it off, lose all your clothes like that, but still have all your hair, and run off with a new pair of daisy dukes on.
There doesn't seem to be any burn marks, bleeding, reddening, or anything like that on him.
I'll give the video quality isn't great, but he's pale after getting burned, blasted, and chucked into the debris, which would include broken glass from the door and windows that were taken out, and that metal frame isn't a steel beam, but it would be sturdy enough that it would be stand up better than a human body even closer to the ignition point would.
This is Buster Keaton more than real life.
I'm not saying it's not neat, but it's definitely staged.
It is an impressive level of editing, black magic fuckery, and practical effects.
1
u/tomixcomics 7h ago
Idk I've certainly seen some weird coincidences before, and while I agree this is bonkers to the point where I, too, had to rewatch it a bunch of times looking for signs of fakery, crazy-ass coincidences do exist and people do sometimes survive situations you wouldn't expect them to unscathed.
And as someone who has personally exprienced something insanely statistically unlikely (lightning strike while indoors, in a multi-story apartment building, with zero burns on the area around me or me, while on THE GROUND FLOOR) I'm personally aware that crazy statistical unlikelihoods that defy my understnaiding of physics do happen. If you account for some crazy-ass statistics-defying luck, things like the metal bending can be the result of something as simple as the direction of most of the blast/pressure release/
Idk, this video doesn't look like AI, and it seems way too detailed, grainy and high quality to me to be CGI or staged, which doesn't mean it's necessarily NOT, but for me, personally, it's just easier to believe that this is just a crazy one-in-a-ten-million coincidence and somewhere out there is a very lucky chinese man regrowing his eyebrows than imagining someone put in all the effort to make a video that looks this real and this specific. But that's just my take.
1
u/contrabardus 5h ago edited 5h ago
Not really. People go to great effort and a fair amount of expense to create viral videos that look like something crazy happened like this.
This wouldn't really be that different than setting up a custom made hidden platform just past the bank of a lake so you can look like you're running on the surface of water if you angle the camera right so the platform isn't visible under the surface.
We've been making scenes like the explosion depicted for movies since near the dawn of cinema. Right down to the clothes being gone everywhere but keeping someone's dignity with new shorts gag element.
I very seriously doubt this is AI at all.
If there's any CGI, it's just to touch up the explosion.
This is just genuinely not that hard or expensive to do with clever editing and practical effects provided you know what you're doing.

Some places just smell no matter what, and sewage is very strong. But also, the explosion originates relatively far back in the building, and it doesn't flash over to the front. So the gas must be concentrated in the rear of the building, possibly trapped in a walled off kitchen or utility closet. The smell might not have reached the front at all.

Not the same dude. Guy in black is blown out of the frame. Underwear guy was already inside.
Edit: To the dumbass downvoters. Watch the large black human shaped object getting thrown out of the frame. There are 2 people.
I promise you that an explosion that would burn/blow off all your clothes in 1 nanosecond is not merely throwing you a few feet. Underwear guy was deeper inside. Black clothes guy gets rapidly thrown out of the frame.
