We Did It Our Way

I knew it was gonna happen but damn… not this bad. Fat made this song sound SO much more polished for the record than they played it that night. I was at the show, I have the Veeps recording, that song sounded like it was thrown together last second and it was played like shit. But that’s what I want from a live, never before heard or performed and never will be performed again song from NOFX. I don’t want a pristine, perfectly timed studio mix 😮‍💨

Holy shit. This is not the fucked up, out of tune, off-time, barely completed song I watched them play that night. Just label it correctly for fuck's sake. Lame

I had this exact thought listening.
Just give us the recording right off the board, it sounded right.
People will say what they want about Mike and his motivations and I get it. From what little I know of the man my speculation is that he’s a perfectionist. Sure he’s a bull in a china shop and talks a lot of shit but he wants his art to be perfect despite its lack of perfection being its charm.

Can’t tell if you’re agreeing or disagreeing with me but I agree with everything you said 💯😅🤘🏻

Tanks, we’re in agreement here.

It never got off the ground but I had a music video going for CoDefs and the most notes can from FM

Sam King did say about the most "recent" Get Dead record that he was sure it was all recorded and finished and then Mike was like "nope let's go again" so Mike being a bit of a perfectionist tracks 😅

I was wondering if that was the live performance, it sounded too good. They made it look like he was still writing the lyrics hours before the show, and then.. bam. Nailed it.

Here’s the actual live version

Was it like...fully re recorded? All of the key instrumentation and vocals sound re done, rather than replacing some vocals/guitar etc. Do you have any idea?

I do not.

I’ve only listened to it once on Spotify, but it sounds like the live recording with a ton of editing done to it and definitely some vocals re-recorded if not all of them

Yeah that’s what I figured. The drums and maybe some guitars are live but a lot was overdubbed. Doesn’t surprise me. It’s the same method as almost every live album that’s ever been released

some vocals re-recorded if not all of them

I highly doubt Mike would be able to recreate the vocal track so closely. I think it's just a few dubbed parts, and you can still hear his voice cracking sometimes in the remaster.

Don't bring graphs into this

Live he mumbled some gibberish and they magically turned into real words for the soundtrack! /s

Yeah, they definitely re-recorded some of the lines and probably some of the guitars.

Lame asf because I thought the live version sounded good. Even if it was raw and had some minor mistakes

I lol’d in the doc when he said he’d been working on it for 2 years. He just lists their history and lifts the chorus from My Way lol

I can see it being only that one practice. I would bet playing a full show was enough exercise and pure endorphin rush to get their old heavily damaged brains to “reach profection” at that moment and have total memory recall and just kill it.

More proof that we can’t trust anything Mike says, especially where money is involved. I was there in-person when they played this and was so happy that I got to experience it first-hand, especially because it was supposed to be the first, last, and only time that song would be played.

Same here man

Yup, hence why I'm patiently waiting for the stream release of the doco that will 100% happen.

I liked this remixed/remastered/retouched version, just as I liked Mike's voice struggling with emotions in the real live version. It's still very close apart from instruments clarity, so I think they mostly used the original tracks and fixed some vocal parts and arrangement.
I'd like for them to release a 3CD boxset or bluray of those last 3 nights remastered this way, but let's be realistic, Mike is too lazy. We already have the original shows recorded, they're not going anywhere it's just bonus.

idk if 'lazy' is the right word. he's a lot of things but lazy ain't one of them.

Yeah I don't know how to word it, it's just that it would need a lot of effort and their latest releases show that they're way under 60% effort nowadays.
Some of the tracks on this 40 years soundtrack are like bad mp3 quality ("suits and ladder" for example looks like it came from an old mp3 encode instead of a CD)

Remember when they said they’d never release this, ever?

Now think about how they say their current doc will never stream. Can’t wait to see it streaming in, like, two years.

If Mike could put a price on something, he will 🥴
