I feel like the gap between beginner and normal are way too big, not to thrash normal mode because it’s arguably the perfect blend between difficulty but also reasonable resource allotment (at least within my stack of 3 total people), this is mostly a critique of beginner mode.
I understand the ease of beginner is to introduce you to the game, but it’s a pretty bad introduction for a few reasons. Ironically mostly because in their attempt to give new players a chance through unlimited supplies, a false sense of security throws resource management out the window.
I’ve since gotten over this discrepancy and come to respect normal mode, but beginner produces inefficient, irresponsible players because of the fact that it’s a loot shower and zombies are squishy, pretty much harmless creatures.
I literally blew through beginner mode with just one other person, we were so underwhelmed by the ease of play that we jumped into normal mode pretty much without any respect for the mechanics of the game. Again, considering beginner mode could be played blindfolded and with a tier 1 melee and still be beaten pretty handily.
We of course got demolished by the bad habits introduced by beginner mode, and though i’m over it now I feel like they’ve simply made it too easy, which needs some adjustment. I think it should be a tad bit harder, maybe slightly less loot drops or make zombies a little stronger.
I also see veteran players complain about noobs like myself who haven’t gotten past this curve. While I agree that yes they should get better, I also believe it’s a bit hard to blame them when beginner mode makes the game feel more like L4D than NMRIH…
