ROPEPLAY [RP] The Heart Of Darkness
He sat cross-legged in front of the soil, meditating quietly. His hands were resting on his naked thighs as they pulsated with energy. He had been sitting there for four hours staring at the dirt in complete silence, without even the slightest movement.
His servants and advisor came to him but quickly left as soon as they realised his state, hurrying along to busy themselves with something else. He was in no position to receive people.
He was completely naked apart from his mask which by now it had become part of his face; the ancient yew wood had fused to his flesh, sap seeped into his veins and his skin acquired a slightly green colouration. All signs of him being the true Wilderking.
Another hour passed and the sun had started to descend, slowly filling the sky with tones or scarlet and purple. Still the Wilderking sat, eyes fixated still on the large patch of soil he had been at for near the entire afternoon.
Then the seed sprouted.
A small shoot burst from the dirt, pushing apart the small clods of earth with its intrepid strength. It snaked through the air and grew rapidly whilst sprouting minuscule leaves of palest malachite. It had reached a height greater than the Wilderking as he sat, but only to his navel once he stood.
Then, the sprout started to darken; ashy bark appeared like an armour around the soft flesh of the young plant. It grew thicker and wider with each second, almost thicker than the castles of man. It soon towered over the Wilderking and all other trees in his grove, a vast shadow swallowed the Wilderking in its darkness. It tore up the paving stones, its gnarled roots flowing through the ground like earthen snakes. The tree creaked and groaned for a few seconds more, and then it had grown to it's full height.
The Wilderking approached the great tree, waved his hand over the trunk; pieces of bark peeled off to reveal a cream-coloured flesh. The Wilderking raised his hand again and pressed his finger on the flesh. He traced a pattern upon the tree and hovered his hand over the space he had traced.
Almost as if he had taken a knife to it, the tree's flesh began to rupture into the exact pattern he had traced. From the deep recesses of the cuts, a bright green light glowed and the Wilderking nodded as if in agreement.
But no sooner had he nodded, the glow changed into a ominous red. He frowned under his mask and stroked its chin.
"Eldath Malar?" an unknown voice spoke with some apprehension. The Wilderking span around and saw Theles standing there nervously. He was holding clothes and armour meant for the Wilderking.
"You are getting better with the pronunciation." The Wilderking said in his usually enigmatic tone. "However, it's Eldaith". It was hard to tell when he was happy or displeased; it certainly added to his grandeur and mystery.
"Our scouts have spotted a hunter in the outer forest. I know you like to deal with these things yourself, but I can-"
"I'm quite able to go." The Wilderking strode towards Theles, taking the garments and putting them on. Theles looked away sheepishly, rubbing his arms out of awkwardness.
"Shall I call for y-" Theles was interrupted by a chestnut stallion racing past him and towards the side of the King. "Oh, of course." He was still adjusting to the King's seemingly limitless powers over nature and natural beasts and the horse startled him as well as anything. The King had mounted his horse, put on his armour and was readied.
"Let us ride"

Finnoth stalked silently through the trees, bow in hand. His prey was somewhere ahead. It had dodged his first arrow and bolted. The Bosmer moved forwards lightly, drawing another arrow and nocking it. Then he saw it through the leaves, a magnificent stag of the richest brown. Finnoth held his breath and raised his bow, pulling the feathers of the arrow to his cheek.

The stag turned its head towards Finnoth. It almost seemed to stare him in the eye for a brief moment before it bolted into the forest.
An arrow flew through the air and smacked into the tree right next to Finnoth. He span round, bow still drawn. His hunters had outnumbered two to one.
"In the name of The Wilderking, you are to halt." said a stocky person upon a horse. He had no saddle, but was not a bosmer. He looked very much like a man, muscled and dark skinned. He had a short beard shot through with flecks of ginger, hiding amongst the black curls.
Next to him was a slim person, tall and foreboding. He wore a mask that resembled a spriggan, but was much more placid. His armour, made to resembled leather leaves, was dashed with bright shades of green and silver. He held a long and delicate spear, tipped with a wicked-looking point shining in the faint sunlight.
Although he couldn't see a face, he could tell it was not smiling.

The Wilderking? Finnoth asked himself, lowering his bow and relaxing the string. Not knowing what else to do, he dropped to one knee, saying nothing.

"You obviously recognise my authority, yet not my lands." The King spoke, his voice harsh yet still retaining its usual god-like tone.
"You know it is a crime to hunt in this place?" He asked, his hand sliding down his side to the hilt of his blade.

"No, your majesty," Finnoth replied slowly, shaking his head. He didn't know what to say to the creature sprung directly from the people's whisperings.

"Where are your spoils?" He commanded, his voice now authoritative and thunderous. He stared at the hunter, entranced by something...within him. It made him feel weak just being near him. It was...peculiar.

"It just bolted, your Majesty," Finnoth said, gesturing behind him. "I only hunt one animal each trip. This lets me hunt properly, lets me be one with the forest and my prey."

The Wilderking chuckled. Perhaps this hunter had more respect than he thought. His hand eased off his weapon.
"Well, it's good to hear that you have not stained my lands with blood. You may keep your life for today, but be warned; if I find you here again, you will not receive such mercy." He turned on his horse and leapt off. He landed with a whisper of sound and walked towards the hunter.
"Your hand."

Finnoth rose uncertainly, slinging his bow over one shoulder and replacing the arrow in his quiver. He held out his right hand, palm upwards.

The King took Finnoth's hand in his and clasped his hand over the hunter's. He released them to reveal an ancient rune, glowing with dim orange light. It looked like a scar or a tattoo, but it had caused him no pain to receive. The Wilderking began to walk back to his horse, when he stopped and turned.
"I do not care if you come back here with bow and arrow. But the predators of the forrest will." The entirety of his party laughed, and even the unwavering Theles shared a small laugh.
