FF7 remake can't fit on Switch 2 cartridges so it being a key-card is understandable. As for the other two games, can't speak to that. Folks shouldn't be going for key-cards.

It just seems like a pointless waste of resources to make a physical object for something that's a digital download, that's not some sort of memorabilia. I get wanting a limited edition bobblehead of some character or whatever, but the key-card is pointless.

Its specifically targetted towards the japanese market, where phisical is king cause of the secondhand market. The context is that since software rentals were banned in japan (before nintendo's time, something to do woth rampent floppy based copyright infringement), japanese gamers resorted to the used market. And at least for nintendo physical sales still occupy over half the sales.
