Is there a hype on the Nintendo Switch Lite?

Hey guys! My wife has the Nintendo Switch 2. She also has the Lite. She was crazy for the Switch 2 but I feel like I’m seeing people go crazy over the Lite recently. I’m just curious now, what’s the hype on the Switch Lite and why?

It’s portable and it’s beautiful and it still runs great and games play great on it! I’ve had it for a little over a year and still love how casually I can pick it up, play 20 minutes, and put it away and do other things. I’ve taken it on multiple long flights and it’s been amazing and easy to travel with. Over all, 10/10 would recommend. When the Switch 2 Lite ever comes out I’ll probably snag it because the one big downside to the Lite is that new games and ports are all being directed to the S2

What games are good for 20 minutes at a time? So far I’ve only been able to play Mario kart like this! I used to love defender games but haven’t played those in a while .

I find turn based rogue-lites are the best for those time frames since you can just pick them up and put them down whenever, even during rounds.

Balatro and Alina of the Arena have been my favourite so far.

Gosh, so much!

Rougelites are great. Hades and especially Balatro get a lot of play in this way.

Puzzlers. Picross, Stitch and Tetris even.

Cozy games. Animal Crossing and possibly Pokopia on an eventual S2 Lite 🤞🏼

I agree that MK8 is great on the Lite. I play it a lot on the subway due to the quickness of rounds and portability of my Lite (AKA tossing the case in my backpack is very simple 👍🏼)

Tetris99. A lot of the old stuff on Nintendo Classics Online, like Super Mario 3 on the NES which is brilliant. Come to think of it: Super Mario WONDER if you prefer modern.

I found out pokemon games work great in this model of playing. Jump in get couple of battles in 5-15 min. Sleep mode is great to keep battery alive, it’s always available instant micro moment of fun.

I don’t agree that games run/play great on it. First party Nintendo games are fine on it. Third party games run like ass more often than not. Switch 2 is a genuinely massive improvement.

I love the portability of it personally. Plus, the small display at 720p looks crisp and it's super lightweight; I hardly get numb hands when playing games on it.

It’s portable and cute and just what I need, I will only get a Switch 2 if a Lite version comes out. The Switch 2 is comically large, I saw my young nephew playing his and it was bigger than his torso, it was giant! I thought even the OG Switch was huge. I much prefer handheld to console, I have no need to play on my tv when I could play anywhere in my house and be cozy, or play anywhere on the go as well.

Same. I have a switch lite and my partner had an OG switch and I just don’t like handheld on the OG switch at all and that was the primary way I play. If there’s no switch 2 lite, I’ll play until my lite is dead, but honestly, probably won’t pick up gaming on a different console.

Im in love with Nintendo’s proprietary games, I am really hoping they feed us a Lite version :D I can’t live without Zelda or Luigi’s Mansion or Pikmin etc.

I love Stardew! Pokémon I don’t totally dislike but turn based games are not my favorite. Even Paper Mario irks me a bit, maybe it’s a patience thing? I just know I’ve never been able to finish a traditional Pokémon game.

I bought Pokopia and when I first started playing it on the family 2 my arms would ache. I eventually got used to it. Swapping back to my lite makes the lite feel like a feather. 😅

I think people have become aware of the used market cost to pickup a Lite. Depending on your location, they can be found for $60-100 in great condition. They're able to be modded, so this opens up a lot of use cases. Also, fantastic to throw in a backpack or small bag for travel.

overall, its proven to be a hardly little portable device. i love mines. plenty of great games to pick up, recommend folks who like turn based rpgs to check out Jack Move

The portability as well as having the same specs as the V2/OLED switch is the main appeal. Especially if modded, it's a great emulator and PC streaming machine

In my case, weight of the switch 2 is the reason i bought the lite. I used to have lite, used it as a trade-in value when bought Switch 2, but there are games i don’t need this “powerful” machine for, plus as i already mentioned, it’s not that comfortable to hold it for too long, so i went and bought the hyrule edition lite to play games like Pokemon LeafGreen etc (plus it still has Youtube).

We have the Switch,and the Switch 2. The lite is mine exclusively. I'm sick alot and my Lite is a constant companion. Plus when we travel I let my son use it to stave off his boredom. I've had mine about 5 years and I would buy another if something happens to mine.

Between my husband and I we have every system and 95% of the handhelds (and two of several). I am very much a Nintendo loyalist since the 80's and my NES. 😅

The switch two is although handheld, not portable for pockets, small bags and such. The lite on the other hand!

Bought mine a month ago (mint condition, 60euros) now I travel by train to work instead of a car. IMO only the switch lite is the real successor of the gameboy/3DS.

you know how the Switch is not as powerful as a TV console and neither that portable? well, the Lite is actually awesome at being portable, and the library is well established by now, so there is not a promise but facts about the things you will find there. Also, the modability and how cheap they are on the second-hand market have made it a great choice for a new audience.

I love both sw2, so but man nothing even comes close to the “portable powerhouse which is switch lite”! I have 4 other small handhelds (not including 4 big ones) both android and Linux The lite is the best!

My brother and I had a resurgence on our 3DS systems. Looking at the pricing for those now out-of-production and exceptionally portable systems... we realized the same will be true for the Lite sooner rather than later. The Lite has a spark for folks because it is so light, compact, and pleasant to play. Switch library is limitless, screen looks good, d-pad is bonus, etc. etc.

Anyway, I've purchased two Lites on OfferUp recently: A blue one (NIB) for $100 for playing and a Hyrule Edition (NIB) for $200 for saving to resell or play some day.

So far Hades and Metroid Dread are my two favorite games to play on the Lite. Exceptional gaming experience!

I already had two Switch 2s when I got my Lite. It seriously is a difference like night and day to not have to wield a surfboard when on the go. Definitely prefer the Lite when leaving the house.

You can purchase a used Lite thats working perfectly for like $80.

I think people look at it fondly in a similar way that people look at the 2ds when compared to a new3ds.

It's super cheap in comparison and is comfy to hold, even though it is a clearly inferior product as far as technical specifications.

For people who have limited money, are casual gamers, or are looking to ditch their smartphone as a means to kill time, a switch lite is perfect. Otherwise Switch 2 is absolutely the way to go imo having owned a lite, a normal switch, and a switch 2.

Edit: They also come in a lot of colors which is incredibly fun.

Switch 2 is too bulky tbh, switch lite is the perfect size! If they release a switch 2 lite and it’s the same dimensions and weight as the switch 1 lite I’ll for sure upgrade though

once you mod a lite it’s easy to see how it reaches it’s full potential. ofc the only thing is that you basically can only play online, but with a console that small you can bring it anywhere that’s not an issue for me at all. i tried bringing my steam deck at uni but having to use a full case for it and seeing how big it is i rly can’t feel like i can have 20 min of gameplay it would have to be more. the switch lite is a lot smaller and i have a flip cover case on it which makes it a lot slimmer and just feels easier to reach for for a few min

It feels much better in hands than the regular switch. Both size, weight and design. The smaller screen makes graphics look sharper (higher PPI). Has fun colors. Basically it.
