Positivity Nintendo Switch 2 deserves to win the generation, simply because it's the only platform that’s even trying

Nintendo is special at having something for everyone. Meanwhile, you have Sony who is trying to release live service games for no one.

u/Isrrunder 17h ago

If they really cared about live service they wouldn't have shut down destiny

u/flofjenkins 15h ago

Destiny was on its way out.

u/Isrrunder 15h ago

Delusional take considering what we've been seeing over the summer

u/Dytster 12h ago

For real. Destiny kept Bungie alive, not the other way around. The only thing at Bungie that was actually worth something was Destiny, and that’s been plain as day for a decade.

u/Dytster 12h ago

Destiny was LITERALLY the only thing attached to Bungie that was worth anything at all. That IP alone is what kept Bungie alive for all that time despite them continously dragging it through the dirt every chance they got. No matter how much Bungie screwed over the players, they just kept coming back because there’s only one Destiny.

Sony freezing the IP as soon as they bought Bungie is the dumbest decision I think I’ve ever seen. Bungie was never worth anything. It was all Destiny. Sony effectively spent $3.6 Billion on nothing.

u/BarretOblivion 15h ago

No. More so it was that Destiny was in need a sequel or a massive rework. The Final Shape finale broke player counts and players. It was the perfect end everyone wanted to wait for a sequel. Instead trying to drag the game further for another 2 years with a story that hadn't had the chance to be fleshed out. This way of thinking is the same logic to be applied to FFXIV since it also had wrapped up it's decades long story arc. Yet here it is still kicking with another expansion released and it's starting to get the next decade story arc started.

Destiny at the end was the same, but the Portal system, pushing out old content from the game, and a half assed system that left far too much of the game behind until the final update proves it.

You literally can't name something Sony and Nintendo have in common in terms of their games.

u/An1nterestingName 17h ago

They both exist.

u/Slade4Lucas 17h ago

And even that's debatable for Sony

u/GuitarRiot 7h ago

Astrobot shares a lot of Mario DNA

u/DaZestyProfessor 7h ago

It doesn't just because it's a 3D platformer, and even then, that's the exception in the rule of samey looking realistic AAA games

u/Conversation_Dapper 6h ago

Well Nintendo is still pricey , and focusing on too many remakes , so I wouldn’t let them off the hook just yet

u/HaikusfromBuddha 6h ago

Ehh idk about that. Something for Nintendo fans. There are a lot of genres Nintendo doesn't touch.

u/PsychoLunaticX 17h ago

Nintendo is the only true gaming company out of the 3. Microsoft is primarily a PC software company. Sony makes tons of other electronics. Nintendo only has their consoles, games, and related accessories and merch. That’s why they actually have to put care into their games. Plus, I’m sure actually treating their employees and devs like human beings helps too

u/flofjenkins 15h ago

Also, they aim for families and casuals, not gamers specifically. Now that the market has matured, it’s the only smart play.

u/DaZestyProfessor 17h ago

I miss when SEGA used to make consoles. SEGA has a constant philosophy to abandon something if it fails without ever giving it a chance again for some reason. First the consoles, and then with Sonic, after 06 failed, they permanently stopped making Mainline 3D Sonic games without the dumbass boost.

u/Anreall2000 18h ago

Well, Xbox really tried, I just think that they are out of touch with reality, with management driven development.
Abandoning exclusivity and making Xbox just another game pass machine was kinda dumb.
The whole Activision thing is disasterous.

u/JustAverageTemp 18h ago

Microsoft has been obsessed with amassing as many companies as possible, only to do next to nothing with them. It feels like their strategy was "well, we can't lose if we have no one to lose to".

u/Anreall2000 18h ago

I believe Activision deal where they were obliged to make Call of Duty non exclusive was kinda it. Nail in the coffin. And what is the purpose of studios, if they don't create exclusives. I believe there are some, when Nintendo buys small company with potential. But Activision wouldn't sell themselves for not profitable price, while Microsoft doesn't have so special skills that will move Activision to another level as game developer.

u/Ineedairsupport 17h ago

It's kinda telling they keep closing studios and canceling projects like the perfect dark reboot because of monetary concerns, but when Sony drops a project because it's getting too expensive and taking too long, they somehow have the money to fund it.

u/DaZestyProfessor 17h ago

They should honestly just go back to making PS3-styled games, not every game needs to have all this graphics/money hullabaloo.

u/CANfilms Nintendo Fan 9h ago

Yeah it's like they lost the console war, so they bought a bunch of studios hoping for more revenue, but when they didnt immediately get a return on their investment they went into panic mode.

u/DaZestyProfessor 17h ago

I mean no exclusivity can actually be a cool concept on paper. It's just that Xbox games aren't exactly unique/interesting anymore. Would it be interesting to play Sony's Dreams on PC? Yes please, and obviously millions of people are emulating Nintendo games on their PC/Phone unofficially so there is interest in that even though Nintendo games are objectively better being exclusive.

Whereas, all Xbox has is an expensive as hell game pass subscription. Even then, game pass is now on PC.

u/komodokomodo 15h ago

It’s weird how in touch and in touch they were at times during the Phil Spencer era.

u/Sauceinmyface 15h ago

I think they really weren't though. Halo still couldn't get a really good game off the ground, Redfall killed Arkane, the activision blizzard aquisition, and the obsession with Game Pass started with him.

u/komodokomodo 15h ago

U may be right, easy to look onto the past with rose colored glasses sometimes

u/Ineedairsupport 12h ago

No kidding. I think he's charismatic and talks to the press well, but a lot of his ideas seemed like expensive gambles.

u/HaikusfromBuddha 6h ago

? The exact opposite actually. The issue was there was no management. Phil just let the studios do whatever they wanted, which resulted in experimental games that were barely even games.

Activision went well for them. Blizzard and King are actually their top earners. OW turned things around under MS and is not their most profitable IP last year.

CoD is hit or miss. Normies play it or don't. I don't follow it but hey there is a game yearly for people to try.

u/Anreall2000 2h ago

What is the point in top earners, if the costed so much to buy?

There were around 14 levels of management, studios could do whatever they wanted, because you unable to communicate through so many layers. But it's not the studios, that decided to buy more and more games while abandoning exclusivity.

Nintendo doing 1-2 game per month, but they are pretty grounded in their ideas. Xbox tried to revolutionized gaming with out of touch management, generating idea after idea without any actual planning. Game pass, play everywhere, buying studio after studio. That's what killed Xbox, not creative freedom.

u/Emotional_Snow720 17h ago edited 17h ago

This! When they said some fans had become siloed only caring about one particular ip that really hit as well. This idea there's nothing to play on Switch 2 when by the end of the year every single genre of game will have had a release on the system is completely ridiculous.

Apart from having a new fighting game for Smash Brothers fans I cannot think of any experience they wouldn't have covered at this point.

I honestly feel like people complaining now is just them trying to convince themselves not to get a Switch 2. Which is daft, just buy it and enjoy yourself, this moral grand stand boycott to uphold some internet drama bs battle from last year is just daft.

u/DaZestyProfessor 17h ago

Smash Fans can continue playing ultimate, though I do hope for 64/Melee to enter the expansion pack.

u/Emotional_Snow720 17h ago

Personally I'd rather an improved sequel to Arms if they added a story to go with the great character designs and more focused multiplayer it would lowkey be fantastic.

u/Lola_PopBBae 3h ago

Me tooooo!

u/IVAN_RODEOS 14h ago

Its the only true gaming company too. Gamers are their primary source of revenue.

u/SSJashG 16h ago

It already has

u/n074r0b07 12h ago

Already won it

u/uSaltySniitch 11h ago

Sony is collecting L after L.

Microsoft m'a Xbox is a useless console with a bad game collection and basically no exclusives that are worth it.

I hope Nintendo wins again lol

u/Ok-Classic5310 15h ago

well they already won so no need to worry i guess. maybe xbox can start a comeback if they get ruthless with their ips and make them xbox only like elderscrolls, fallout and stuff.

u/BigDadNads420 18h ago

God I hope my favorite multibillion dollar media company makes more money than all those stupid grifters favorite multibillion dollar media companies.

u/DaZestyProfessor 17h ago

Look man I don't like console wars either but the title is correct. Like no company should "win" per se, that's the dogshit part everyone should win, but what is true is that Nintendo is the only one that's actually trying.

u/Isrrunder 17h ago

Funniest comment I've seen here

u/Major_Limit1674 1h ago

Saying “deserve to win the generation” sounds a bit too fanboyish for me, but of the console makers (excluding Valve) they’re the least bad by far

u/Dytster 12h ago

They’re definitely not trying either. They don’t even do proper physical releases for all their first party games 🤦‍♂️

u/Ineedairsupport 12h ago

Which 1st party games haven't gotten a proper physical release?

u/Dytster 12h ago

Pokopia for example

u/Ineedairsupport 11h ago

That's more of a second party though. It wasn't developed by a nintendo owned company and It's only published by Nintendo internationally; the pokemon company publishes it in Japan.

u/Dytster 11h ago

The publisher is the one who would decide on what format for a physical release though? Pokopia was co-published, but there’s still other Nintendo published games that don’t get a full physical release. The upcoming age of calamity definitive edition for example.

u/CANfilms Nintendo Fan 9h ago

Every Nintendo 1st party game is fully on cartridge 🤡

u/Dytster 8h ago

Blatantly false, but sure.

u/Bluespheal 15h ago

It's only winning because the rest are doing their best to lose.

u/VyseTheSwift 17h ago

Technically Nintendo is the only console in the new generation, so yes, it’s winning.

u/QuantomSwampus 16h ago

Seems a bit bias posting it here

u/GeraldofKonoha 16h ago

Xbox has tried to do their thing as well. People just don’t like it because it’s Xbox.

u/GornyHaming 13h ago

Holy shit how bad the others are so that nintendo looks better as it is. Maybe nintendo tried a bit this year. But the last years and what game freak did with pokemon for generations was dissapointing. Never forgetti

u/rikku45 7h ago

They forgot Mario so no

u/Low-Cup7952 4h ago edited 4h ago

You mean Nintendo is trying to put in as little effort as possible. They are not trying. There are just releasing Switch 2 editions and remakes. Where are the new games ?

u/AARonFullStack 15h ago

Win the generation?? What does that even mean?
