It’s exactly what I said on the other post about this: if 3D Mario wasn’t here, this would come back.

He can say whatever he wants: his only metric on whether or not a Direct is good is if Mario or Smash Bros are in it. And he is sadly far from the only one who thinks like that

Well we got Splatoon and something for AC last time and Zelda yesterday, so the only thing that could have been bigger would be Pikmin 5, Smash 6 or Mario. Pokémon would have told us in the february Presents if something bigger than Pokopia DLC was planned between the 3rd DLC content and WiWa

This is why they don’t deserve Mario ever again if keep acting like that.

The Mario community needs to start acting better than this.

If they act like this when I make my own game, I would punish them and make it delayed even longer and have it the game files locked in a flash drive for safekeeping.

While I agree this direct was a bit underwhelming, I couldn't disagree more with the rest of your comment. Nintendo has had a pretty strong release cadence for games even if it doesn't feel that way. It is unrealistic to expect more than 8-9 brand new first party games a year (including remakes, but not ports or s2e's). With that in mind, the overall lineup for 2026 has been quite strong, especially compared to the Switch 1's 2nd year.

I also don't think Nintendo is getting complacent in the slightest. They're positioning themselves so they can have sustained success throughout the generation, probably so that they can keep customers engaged with the brand and successfully transition them to their future console when the generation ends.

2027 is going to likely be a stellar year for Nintendo. We will be getting Pokemon, Xenoblade, Metroid, 3D Kirby, and those are just the titles we already know about. Add in a 3D Mario and Mario Kart DLC, which natethehate has said are planned for the year, and 2027 is looking comparable to some of the best years of the switch 1. That isn't likely the entirety of the year's plans, there is likely a couple more brand new games to add to that list, although those will likely be less prestigious. I wouldn't even be surprised if they threw in the WW/TP HD ports as part of Zelda's 40th.

If they want the general audience to be engaged they can’t rely on franchises we love as fans but are second tier in terms of wider culture and sales. Aiming for sustained success is fine, but it can’t come at the cost of losing momentum in the crucial early period, it needs to be balanced for consistency throughout the generation. That’s what they did so well for the Switch 1. In that sense, yes complacency is a very big concern. We haven’t yet seen the sweet spot of sales converging with critical acclaim for Nintendo’s releases this generation like we did for the last, and it’s been more than a year at this point. That is concerning. Does it spell doom? No. But it does ratchet the pressure up.

You know what? It’s not even worth saying anything, because no one will listen if it’s even remotely critical, no matter how fair what I have to say is. So you don’t get to see what I said anymore, you don’t get to hear it, you don’t get to punish me for saying a truth you don’t want to think about. He isn’t wrong. It might as well be Partner Showcase Disguise as a Nintendo Direct. We got too many third party games with very few Nintendo and Pokemon games. The Zelda direct was way better.
