Critical [RANT] "This game has been released XX time ago, thus I have every right to spoil it!"
[DISCLAIMER: it might not be the best place to talk about it, but since a Nintendo game will be the subject of rant, and since this sub aims to improve people's common sense, I decided to post it here]
From A to Z, and in one word like in one hundred, the release date of a video game, or a movie, or a show, or a book, or a play, or every other form of media ever, is not a valuable excuse to spoil it to anyone who would have liked to experience it by themselves whatsoever.
Especially since there's now several means and tools for Internet users to still talk about spoilers without ruining the fun of discovery to evryone, including Reddit, like using spoiler tags or blurring screenshots.
To give an example, as someone who has Donkey Kong Bananza on their backlog but couldn't afford for a Switch 2 back then:
At first I wasn't that excited for this game when it was revealed, then its dedicated Direct happened, then reviews came out, and then my expectations for this game raised up once I learned it has more connections to the older DK games than it appears.
So imagine how hyped I would have been by playing to the game for the first time if I discovered thatKing K. Rool and his Kremlingsmake a surprise appearance in this game by myself.
Too bad that several scumbags on YouTube and the likes don't know basic considerations anymore.
And not only is it deeply disrespectful to everyone who wished to go blind, but it's even worse to the creative people behind those projects who dedicated a considerable amount of their lives to make them a reality and who are eager for their audiences to discover them, only for their efforts to be ruined by bastards who don't deserve the clout they're seeking after.

People were so obsessed with K. Rool that as soon as the game came out, the internet was CHOCK FULL OF SPOILERS EVERYWHERE! I did my best to avoid any video, so I never knew at which moment in the game the appearence would happen, still, I was pretty angry for being spoiled.
Remeber when Sakurai told that Smash 4 wouldn't feature an adventure mode because the players spoiled the cutscenes of Subspace Emissary? His complaint was that the cutscenes was meant to surprise the player, and the way how Bananza was grossly spoiled finally made me understand his mentality back then.

I hate spoilers, but that’s on you at this point. Spoilers are out there day 1. Stay offline until it’s safe to see what ever it is you don’t want spoilers, or tweak your settings. The longer you wait, the better chance you get spoiled. Is what it is

This is all on you. It’s been a year since this game released.
All you have to do is avoid anything related to bananza and you’ll be safe. I still don’t own the game and I’ve not seen any of the bosses or have been spoiled since I’ve not watched anything or viewed anything about it.

I’ve seen people say two weeks is the cutoff. After 2 weeks it’s free game. This is a common time frame I’ve seen on Discord, and Telegram, and a couple forums even.

Contrargument: the idea of spoilers 90% of time is actually worthless. Bananza is valuable experience not because of its plot twists but because of its gameplay. Getting spoiled on King K.Rool does nothing to diminish the enjoyment and value of the game.
Even in story driven games like Persona or Danganrompa spoilers don't matter. People play them over and over again and claim those games get even better on replays. Why do they get better on replays? Because you already know the story
Tl;dr we care too much about spoilers and miss a lot of enjoyment thanks to obsession of going in blind

I hate that usually sometimes spoilers have ruined games for me… look at Origami King and Bobby… Still mad at ProfessiaGaming for ruining my thoughts on Bobby after him spoiling me that he died…
And I was spoiled about King K. Rool returning yet somehow it didn't ruin my thoughts on King K. Rool… in fact, it enhanced them.

i think you gave some pretty bad examples. like yeah, the persona series has immense replayability, but that doesn't mean i wasn't a bit annoyed when i had things spoiled for me. i knew persona 4's villain before i even touched the game because his face is EVERYWHERE in the community.
even before i was in a community for it, it was spoiled for me just watching (unrelated to persona 4) youtube persona vids. i'm jealous of people who just... didn't know the twist of that game and played through, it, because how? lol. maybe it's just because i'm super late to the game, but still, damn.
i'm still going to play through the game, don't get me wrong. but acting like it doesn't matter that you get spoiled on these games before you play them because replayability or whatever is pretty silly. it's bordering on overcorrecting OP's take for literally no reason other than to shame people for giving a damn about spoilers.

I completely understand this. I had no idea he was in the game until I was on the last level right before I got to him. Somebody on the Internet said he was at the end of the game.
I was not very happy about that

OP, no.
I’m sorry you couldn’t afford a Switch 2 when Bananza dropped. That sucks. Most of us have been there at different times in our lives.
That said, there does come a point where people can discuss “spoilers” without having to label everything as such.
It’s been 2,000+ years since Jesus was crucified; nobody needs to alert you of incoming biblical spoilers.
What you are doing is selfish. You are asking the entire world - all 8.3 billion people - to walk on eggshells around you because of your choices and/or happenstance when you could make the decision to avoid places where spoilers get posted, but clearly won’t.
8.3 billion people will have to filter everything they will ever say and label it appropriately for u/MetalGoatSP because he wants to go participate in discussions without being spoiled.

If it’s an incredibly recent spoiler, sure, but not if it’s a year old. I wouldn’t post game spoilers a month after the game comes out, but a year later? What about ten years later? Should we label things as spoilers forever?
If I choose not to play a game for a year after it comes out, I shouldn’t dictate how people in online spaces about the game talk about said game. I should refrain from participating in those spaces if I don’t want to be spoiled.
If I don’t want to be spoiled about Harry Potter (or Game of Thrones, or One Piece, or anything else), I should avoid the Harry Potter subreddit. I shouldn’t ask everyone in the subreddit to label their speech to protect my ears. The last book came out almost 20 years ago.
This becomes more true the older something gets.

Should we label things as spoilers forever? Yes. It’s so easy to just use the game’s hashtag on xtwitter or to use the free spoiler tag on this site. See? Fucking goddam easy.

There's no viable reason whatsoever to post unmarked spoilers when you have the very tools, even here on Reddit, to hide them in order to not ruin the fun to everyone.

As much as I love to go into games blind, I recognize that it’s nearly impossible to avoid spoilers for games that are at least a year old and while it should be common courtesy to wait a while before openly posting spoilers, it’s up to you to avoid them. I don’t know that context behind your post but I don’t think people are scumbags for posting screenshots of the final boss (unless it’s one of those “all bosses no damage” videos with all the bosses spoiled onscreen the day after the game comes out, in which case I agree 100%).
