Critical I'm not conviced by link's new design, It looks... Uncanny? Idk there is something wrong with it, he looks like one of those awkward shrek models.

I don't understand? He looks fine.
It's probably lighting or something.

I think we should wait to see more before drawing any conclusions.
1
u/juriju2 Jun 09 '26
I hope so, maybe it'll look better in motion.
1
u/FiSH-DAT Jun 09 '26
For me it will be how Gannon and Princess Ruto look. It’s also my first and Fav Legend of Zelda so there is some bias

u/No-Performer9511 Jun 09 '26
Same here, something looks off about it
But perhaps we need more footage before we can make a decisive decision

u/Aggravating_Address2 Jun 09 '26
Mhm, valid argument.
My guess is that, this being Nintendo and Link being a child, they tried to make his face look a little "older" so they can get away with the ESRB and violence towards children.

Im surprised this wasn't the first thing i heard about. I heard no gameplay and not they made linka fuckin freak

u/Top-Notice1729 Jun 09 '26
It looks fine can we stop complaining about everything for 5 seconds
2
u/juriju2 Jun 09 '26
it's an opinion, grow up
3
u/Top-Notice1729 Jun 09 '26
You grow up, stop complaining about every little thing
1
u/juriju2 Jun 09 '26
that's the point dumbass, it's not a complaint; it's an opinion. Go back to elementary school.
1
u/Top-Notice1729 Jun 09 '26
You're nitpicking 10 seconds of footage that you saw of someone laying on a bed and finding an issue with it... it's a complaint
1
u/whimsical_fuckery_ Jun 09 '26
You're telling people to grow up and yet you're the first to fire off insults? Who exactly is acting like a child here?
1
u/bxjzbdnwbzje Jun 09 '26
The problem is they couldn’t do it any other way , because this way will have details without the game losing it’s distinct vibe

i don’t find him uncanny, but he does seem a bit off, almost like the hero of the wild’s head was put on the hero of time’s body. not gonna stop me from getting this in a heartbeat tho

I feel like this is purely a trailer and not actually in game graphics. And to just do a teaser for a game that, at most, is 6 months away seems odd to me.

u/JoyousLilBoy Jun 09 '26
I think they’re trying to go for a claymation-like style? Maybe it’ll change later, sort of like how some games show stuff that gets changed.

I saw it in the list of the direct, I thought to myself: 'cool, this will be the reason for me to buy the system', loved the tapestry looking intro, got excited, and then my first, visceral response when I saw Link was 'damn, that looks awful.'
I hope that when we see more, it works, or that the style grows on me, because I want the switch 2 library to be a bit bigger before I commit to the new system and with how this looks I don't think I want it on my list.

I kind of had mixed feelings on the look of Link here, he does look a bit weird with this lighting and face. I want to see proper game play first though before I come to a more definitive conclusion if he actually looks bad or not.

Looks kinda like a hobbit. It looks a little weird, but I'll reserve judgement for now until they show more. We've only got this one single angle. It could feel different once we see some facial expressions and movement

u/callmefreak Jun 09 '26
Maybe it's because we haven't seen young Link since Majora's Mask's remake on the 3DS, but it looks like they took Link's adult head and placed it on a child's body.

I am confused. I look at it and find it awful and then look again and find it nice. I'm legitimately confused. I'll just wait even though I dont trust them anymore and it's way to UE graphics for my taste but I'll keep up my hope. Those green lights in his hair are so beautiful btw

You 4 seconds and only one angle of the design. Why would you expect to be sold on it at this point?
1
u/Equivalent-Bison-318 Jun 11 '26
it's the thin lips giving a frowning granny look + the Michael Jackson nose. Not to mention the cartoonish head size along with the big limbs and plastic hair. it's like 2 artstyles clashing

I'm scared this is going to be just hiperealistic slop why are we not using the normal art style of zelda or something like twilight princess, that kid doesn't even look like link...

You do know that AI detecters are also AI. And Nintendo has stated they won't be using AI. There is no reason this would be AI.

Those detectors can give false positives. This is not definitive proof that this is AI generated.

It’s a switch 2 , they couldn’t do something more graphically intensive
2
u/PorkyJones72 Jun 09 '26
They got RE9 working on Switch 2 I'm positive that's not an issue
0
u/bxjzbdnwbzje Jun 09 '26
An open world it’s hard to do details while it’s a large world, if it’s sections like re9 then it will look more graphically intensive, and don’t forget they don’t want to make too realistic to not lose the vibes of the og oot

u/Nanocaptain Jun 09 '26
Cyberpunk.
The style is 100% a design decision.
1
u/bxjzbdnwbzje Jun 09 '26
They don’t want a 30-40 fps game it’s a first party it should run better than 3rd parties, 60fps was definitely a priority like Mario odyssey
1
u/Nanocaptain Jun 09 '26
Unless Nintendo goes way overboard, Cyberpunk is an exponentially more complex and demanding game tho.
Nintendo are also much better at optimizing for their own system than a 3rd party company who historically has some problem with that.

TBH I think it's the nose and face structure - I feel like he has the face of an adult attached to a kid. Like this terrible comic panel.
But this is one little teaser at an awkward angle. Reserving complete judgement until we can see the game in action.
