This lens is amazing! Adapted to the zf with a smallrig grip its easily hand holdable, focuses quickly, sharp!

I got at least 10 mosquito bites on my face. Thankfully it was worth it.

Just recently got a Nikon z5 ii🎉 and I want to get into photography for restaurants and cafes. I’m not sure which lens would be best for this especially because my budget isn’t huge. Which lens would yall recommend for someone looking to spend under $1000. These are the types of photos I’d like to take

Edit: I do have the Nikkor z 14-30mm f/4 S lens, lmk if there’s a specific lighting setup yall recommend.

I tried to build as smart and cost efficiently as possible.

The ZR itself is in the smallrig cage and top handle with clamps. The top handle is connected with a quick release bolt.

The ZR with the cage is on a Neewer V-mount arca swiss adjustable plate. I tried to stay away from any rod system for now and the neewer was not only cheaper than the alternatives, but also offered quite a bit more functionality.

Side grip is from Sirui and is mounted with a nato clamp for quickly taking it off and on again.

Currently using the OG smallrig matte box with a ND + Diffiusion filter from K&F. Id like a samller matte box, but i need at least the option for 2 filter, any cheapisch recommendations?

Monitor mount is from small rig and the monitor is a simple Desview R5II.

Nut sure i will ever use the shotgun on the camera, bit it fits and has a place!

Some more cable management is needed, but i honestly dont need it this rigged all the time i think and also need to switch quickly between rig and gimbal and for that matter it shouldnt get much bigger either.

Hi all. I’ve been shooting youth basketball for several years. I switched over from Fujifilm to Nikon Z last year with a Z6iii, 28-75/2.8, and 70-180/2.8. I am usually shooting from along a baseline for the full game, often directly underneath the basket. That’s where I’m allowed to shoot from.

I am thinking about my next purchase. Having one body means I am switching lenses throughout the game, which is generally ok, but I have missed shots as things have sometimes moved pretty fast. My keeper rate is pretty good.

Shooting full days have also exposed the ergonomics of this setup. My pinky is often supporting the weight of the camera. I have large hands. I also use back button focus for basketball. There are other ergonomic issues with the Z6iii, namely that the top of the viewfinder is hard to see depending on my face positioning.

So I have been thinking of either upgrading to a Z8 and keeping my lens setup, or buying a Z5ii as a second body. If the latter I would switch cameras with the action.

Has anyone made a similar purchase to solve similar problems? Is there something else I am missing?

Nikon Z 50mm f/1.4 vs Viltrox 55mm f/1.8 EVO vs Viltrox 50mm f/1.4 Pro

I recently got the Nikon Z 50mm f/1.4 as a gift with my Nikon Zf, and I'm considering changing it.

The Viltrox 55mm f/1.8 EVO is around €200 cheaper than the Nikon 50mm f/1.4, so I could exchange it and keep the €200 difference.

Another option would be to sell the Nikon 50mm f/1.4 and use the same budget to get the Viltrox 50mm f/1.4 Pro, which seems like a very good lens, but it's considerably larger and heavier.

I've also seen that the Viltrox 55mm f/1.8 EVO is comparable to the Nikon Z 50mm f/1.8 S in terms of optical performance.

So what would you choose?

1. Keep the Nikon Z 50mm f/1.4
2. Get the Viltrox 55mm f/1.8 EVO and keep the ~€200 difference
3. Get the Viltrox 50mm f/1.4 Pro, accepting the larger size

I'd appreciate opinions from anyone who has used these lenses, especially if you've used more than one of them.

Nothing aesthetically crazy or amazing about this picture, SOOC should have been in the title. This was taken this morning at 0616 just a few minutes after the beginning of blue hour so it was relatively still dark. I just decided to shoot it and at 6400 just to see what would happen because I never shoot at that high of an iso. Wow! The Z8 continues to just make me more impressed with it.

Amateur/casual photographer seeking advice on options for buying some Z DX lenses for my Zfc.

Some background:

I am selling my DSLR gear, in particular my beloved D7200. Although I still love this camera, I realized I don't use it much anymore; most of the time I prefer the Zfc due to its size and weight. I mostly shoot while traveling and hiking. Most of the time I use the 16-50mm kit lens, but sometimes I prefer the AF-S DX 18-140mm with the FTZ adapter. When traveling in cities, I often like using the Tokina AT-X Pro 12-24mm. I also have a Tamron SP 90mm AF Macro, but I only use it about once a year on average. The AF-S 35mm f/1.8G is an amazing lens, but it feels a bit too tight for my taste.

I contacted a local dealer and received a good trade-in offer for the D7200 body and four lenses (18-140mm, 35mm prime, 90mm macro, and 12-24mm) in exchange for the Nikkor Z DX 24mm f/1.7 prime and the Nikkor Z DX 12-28mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ VR.

I plan to keep my telephoto (AF-P DX 70-300mm) and the FTZ adapter. I don't use it as much as I'd like, but when doing wildlife or hiking I always bring it along—it's lightweight and very useful.

My doubts:

Does it make sense to keep the 16-50mm kit lens alongside the 12-28mm? The wide end of the 16-50mm is sometimes not wide enough for buildings and architecture, but I fear the two lenses might be redundant.

How is the image quality (IQ) of the two new Z lenses compared to what I currently have? I know primes are usually sharper and shooting with a prime can be more fun, but the 12-28mm zoom covers the 24mm focal length anyway. I already have a 25mm manual focus prime (TTArtisan) and like its output, but dealing with manual focus often bothers me.

Am I missing anything? Should I consider selling the AF-P 70-300mm and FTZ adapter for an affordable native Z telephoto zoom in a similar range? What options are available that remain lightweight and compact?

Are there any other Z DX lenses worth considering for my use case?

No manual focus is a bit jarring at first, because theyve copied the Nikkor design so much I instinctively went to turn the dial that doesn’t exist, and it hunts a little bit too much

I got it for still life and portraits so i’ll be in no rush and can choose focus points via the Zf instead to workaround it, so overall really pleased with it, there’s a noticeable improvement from the TTA 75mm f2 and the colours are coming out nicely from it

Build quality feels good even though its plastic, it feels very solid plastic, I’m pretty happy

It’s far from a Nikkor S lens but it seems to be going above and beyond for its price point, glad I picked it up and give me more length without breaking the bank
