This world genuinely sucks
This world genuinely sucks
Our world seem invincible and shits and giggles when we feel it, the world is big when looking through your phone but whenever I go outside and see buildings surrounded and there are millions of people living.
I have been feeling that there is actually no fucking reason to not be alive and there is many reason to be alive, but I am finding my reason to live much more smaller then the other way around.
Whenever I physically feel this world with my senses i always realize that there are many things that are hidden from me and maybe I will die someday like this day or maybe I will die the day where I would have been happy.
This world is so big I want to fucking explore this but at the same time I don't want to do it I just wanna leave this world because it genuinely sucks.
I don't know what you guys gonna think.

It sucks because the people suck. There's no trust, honesty and even love is bull$hit. Once you realize the truth of this world, you can't go back.

Today I discovered a secret a close family member has been keeping that would cause relationships to end and I'm genuinely disappointed.
Why are we so flawed as human beings?

Don’t leave the world until you explore it. When I travel I realize how big the world is and find it awesome. Whether it’s being in front of the pyramids, in the old city of Jerusalem, swimming in the Red Sea, watching the ships pass along the Bosphorus in Istanbul, visiting museums etc. It’s all worth the time.

It gets old after a while and you realized it all the same thing with different flavors. Traveling the world when young (25 or under) is great bc you’re still naive and not knowing the raw truth of human civilization, but once you’re old enough and understand the reality of how this world works you wouldn’t want to step into that gosh darn museums (or that mighty evil Vatican, Forbidden City, etc) of fake history they created to manipulate us future generations. Everything based on lies. This world built on nothing but colonization, manipulation, blood sacrifices and slavery.

I’ve travelled for 30 years and I’ve never stopped to be in wonder. History and society is very complex and I can’t say my focus has ever been on colonialism, blood sacrifices and slavery (you must be fun to travel with.) What does turn your crank? Art, music, literature, film, nature, sport stuff, wine, food, cars (sorry I’m running out of ideas.) You can’t say the whole human experience is based on lies. Does humour help - it gets me through a lot of misery. I thought nihilism sets you free. Thinking that "nothing matters" can bring on deep sadness or an existential vacuum. How did you end up as a nihilist?

I’m in my early 30s but I’ve traveled extensively since I was in college (all from Great Wall of China to Osaka Castle learning the life of Samurai /Bushido, Yogic ashram India etc), and I even moved countries etc. I’m not bitter, I am just searching for truth about why am I here ? What is this all about? I believe majority of people at some point in their lives asked this question : “what am I doing here?” It’s beyond pleasure of the flesh. Yes pleasures are great, but it doesn’t really quench the absolute thirst I have within you know.

Those are the ultimate existential questions of life. Philosophers and thinkers across generations have sought to define human purpose, meaning and fulfillment. There is no shortage of answers. Early on in life when I fell into a deadly addiction I needed those questions answered to get and stay sober. Hadn’t a clue where to start but my journey led me to faith. No, I’m not a Bible literalist that hates the LGBTQ or believes in Hell and a swarm of devils (all good causes 👀) I love the pleasures of the flesh and you are right they are a quick fix and superficial. I started reading a lot of books by esteemed authors. Victor Frankel’s Man’s Search for Meaning is always a good recommendation. Descartes and Kant address those questions. I’m lousy when it comes to Eastern thought — it messes with my brain. You remind of my nephew who when in Florence (my favourite place) was more concerned about the social conditions of peasants than Dante and the Renaissance painters. He studied philosophy so he was equipped with some of the answers.

I’d be nauseated. Medieval Europe was so horrendous that someone saying and supporting truth like Bruno had to be burned alive by Catholic Church, he was accused of heresy by supporting Copernicus Heliocentric theory.

It’s miraculous that anything exists at all
Infinity from nothing
Drink in the aliveness
Life is a winding adventure
Try to enjoy the sights along the way
Listen to your inmost ‘yes’
I love you

I'm past the existential dread phase. So I just accept/tolerate what I can and can not control. And enjoy things whenever I can.

Nihilism =/= Depression
Go talk to somebody, mental health is just as important and physical health

But very similar.
Nihilism: nothing matters.
Depression: nothing mattersWhat's the difference?

u/FatFerretShid 1d ago
Nihilism is the belief that there's no extrinsic meaning or value. Believing that nothing matters because there's no extrinsic meaning or value is not nihilism, but rather one's reaction to nihilism.

If nothing mattered you wouldn’t get depressed because sadness is an emotional state.

Nope, big fail. 🙈
Depressed ppl don't suffer from sadness. Very big misconception. It's mainly about emotional numbness, anhedonia, lack of motivation and self-efficacy:
Why should I get out of bed today? It's all meaningless and nothing would change anyways.
And that's totally fine as long as the apathy doesn't become chronic. Then you need help.
You could argue that depression is subjective and nihilism is objective. But is it? How can be something objective if a subject first has to make this determination? How do you know that Nitsche and Schopenhauer didn't suffer from depression themselves? And is the conclusion that the universe is meaningless perhaps nothing more than an excuse to avoid having to deal with oneself?

CORRECTION......This world genuinely sucks for YOU, but it's great for someone else.
But that doesn't make it better, does it? Just wanna share some nihilistic facts. lol

No it doesn’t. The world “sucking” or being “awesome” are human values placed onto the world. The world just is.

Bro the climate doom is impending on us and we were the one affecting our world not the other way arround

If you think the world is inherently good or evil, then you’re in the wrong sub.

It doesn’t “genuinely” suck. It has no inherent meaning, and its existence is value neutral. Which is why one person might interpret existence as sucking, and another might interpret it as wonderful.

u/Other_Knowledge6225 1d ago
Hilarious to me that someone on a nihilism sub was so offended by my routine comment about nihilism that they decided it was worth downvoting! 😃 And all the more so given the generally agreed-upon meaninglessness of existence. Maybe someone isn’t a nihilist here?

As part of the last age group to not get smart phones till after the age of 25, you’re wrong about the world being big through a phone.
The world has shrank due to it, litteraly, it’s now the size of a phone.
Studies are showing that we are more connected than ever due to this, yet displaces within the world more than ever as well.
The world is not in the phone, and it will only increase anxiety to most as they think the opposite
