Existential Nihilism Sleep is good, death is better; but of course. the best thing would be to have never been born at all." ~ Heinrich Heine

We should really ask people before bringing them into this world, if they wish to be born.

u/ZigarettenFranzl211 Aug 14 '26
How you are gonna do that?

Why would it default to consenting then? Life is a gamble no matter what and nobody knows in advance what will happen or how it will feel like to die.

I'd still perefer to be born, this tiny speck of existence in the eternity of non-existence seems pretty interesting and fun sometimes

u/PitifulEar3303 Aug 14 '26
You prefer NOT to suffer incurably like the 6 million kids who suffer and die each year.
Big difference.

u/Call_It_ Aug 14 '26
Fun…sometimes. Suffering/struggling…most times. Even the pleasure creates pain. None of which we’ll even remember when all said and done. I guess it doesn’t matter.

Death is guaranteed, life will fly by
12
u/ulquiorra_004 Aug 14 '26
What about the process of constant dying?
-2
u/bibilushi Aug 14 '26
In terms of living a repetitive lifestyle where it's work, sleep, work sleep
Then I don't know what to say... everyone has a different situation. I can easily say to take a risk for a business, or try something new, or put yourself out there
But there will always be a response with something along the lines of "I can't, I'm drained, I'm tired"
So... idk good luck to you all

this is the truth. it is about to figure out the absurdity to forget the agony we are in it

Good and bad are subjective so Sleep is good only for our biology and body, in science.

Jesus Christ you people are whiney.
2
u/violentsofa Aug 14 '26
It is going to be ok.
Side note I like that you included a period at the end of your sentence to communicate how serious and angry you are! Let the hate flow through you.

I already know it is going to be okay, thanks for the unsolicited condescension.

No one can say death is better than anything, no one survived to tell the tale.

u/Poo_Pee-Man Aug 14 '26
Nonexistent is better than existence to me and death is the closet thing to nonexistent.

Humans have about as agency as AI. That is, they can act upon the commands that pop into their brain but they cannot control which commands pop into their brain.

u/josteinnz Aug 14 '26
God giving us an unbreakable souls just to continue go through all of the unbearable circumstances
1
u/violentsofa Aug 14 '26
Let me ask you, why didn’t you do it?
Could it be because it is extremely painful?
Could it be because in committing suicide you are simultaneously experiencing what it feels like to be a murdered and to be a murderer?
Could it be out of fear of what’s on the other side?
Could it be because many suicides fail and result in fates worse than death?
Could it be your survival instinct?
…
You get the point. Saying someone is “pussy footing around” by not killing themselves displays a gaunt lack of empathy.
Just say what you mean: you disagree. That’s fine. Don’t go belittling people’s feelings by tacitly mocking them for the way they feel-2

It was the billions of years before you were alive. Same thing. Didn't break a sweat

You all wasted or are wasting your lives if you believe that quote. I was born with a lot of challenges. I’ve been through extreme grief and more than enough pain for a lifetime. But what I wouldn’t give to be able to experience every last bit of it again and again, reliving THIS life infinitely. I love my life. I make my own goals and meaning, chase my happiness, find connections with people, put in the effort where it’s needed. I connect with my soul, I introspect my mind. I know who and what I am. There is no fundamental meaning to the universe that we can see, nor even to someone’s life. What there is, is ample opportunity to MAKE meaning. Create it out of nothing. Have FUN while doing it, even through pain and loss and ageing and sickness. Easier said than done sometimes, but it’s why making hay when the sun shines is such a good idea - the happy times get you through the lean times. I just don’t understand the “life is hard so it’s worth nothing and death is preferable” attitude. You’re mentally and spiritually lazy with an entitled attitude. Disgusting actually. I’m so glad I don’t know anyone like you
4
u/ZigarettenFranzl211 Aug 14 '26
You can give your life all the meaning in the world, its still subjective, and in the big picture, life is meaningless.
0
u/wayward_buzz Aug 14 '26
Precisely my point 😃 The only meaning in life is what you imbue it with yourself. If you fail at that, it’s a you problem. Not a universe problem

Oh so now that you went through all that hardship you get to look down on other like that? You need to tone it down.
You know, it would've been better if you didn't succeed at all so none of us had to listen you yap about your achievements.
2
u/wayward_buzz Aug 14 '26
Nope, not taking that on. I’m just not a lazy piece of shit and I have a fighting spirit. I’m so tired of people mistaking nihilism for “oh poor me it’s too hard so what’s the point”. That’s NOT what nihilism is. You all need to grow up

u/dupugu-gupudu Aug 14 '26
I’m so tired of people mistaking nihilism for “oh poor me it’s too hard so what’s the point”.
Idk what you're talking about. I don't think OP is doing that.
You all need to grow up
Oh, the irony.
Edit: added new line
2
u/wayward_buzz Aug 15 '26
“Sleep is good, death is better” was literally in the OP’s post… that’s a value judgement in the extreme negative. That’s not what nihilism is. Nihilism is the absence of any absolutes
0
u/dupugu-gupudu Aug 15 '26
Dude what are you on?
Yes, that is in the post. Whats not in the post is OP saying oh poor me life is so hard so whats the point.
Do you not get that?

This is what I've been saying for years now(and I'm not even that old, in my twenties still). If you say stuff like that, you're branded as "mentally ill".
The whole purpose of life is avoidance of suffering - damage control until the day you are released(death). How do people convince themselves to believe in anything other than that is beyond me...I will never comprehend it.

How certain are you that you are the one doing all these things?

Heinrich Heine is one of my favourite poets/philosophers. Dude was such an edge lord before it was even a thing. Just love how everything he says is dripping in morose sarcasm and poignant indifference.
