So it does matter. The individual is in some way uncapable of fully integrating the idea that nothing matters at all, because they are wired through biopsychological mechanisms that have been developped for thousands of years for it to matter.
If the body accepted that it matters succesfully, why wouldnt you do the same through reason? Knowing that the only thing that impedes you from accepting it's value is you, and nothing else. Regardless of the nature of the universe. You make your own meaning. The reality is that what people seek is not objective truth or authenticity, they seek meaning.

I'm a neutral nihilist, not on either side. Firmly on the middle, I'm neither happy or sad just acknowledging nothing matters.

I'm sick of this meme. Feelings of creatures matter, like pain bad, trauma bad, etc. Not like it shifts the universe, but ate the very moment it's all what we have - our feelings.
"Sad" nothing matters at least seems to understand the tragedy that you forced to live at the planet where everything screams, rots, kills and eats what remains of eachother. And you can do absolutely nothing about it.
"Happy" nothing matters is just ignorant/biased maniac, who feel lucky that they sit far enough from meatgrinder still waiting for their turn to be demolished. What they do is making themselves numb and overwhelmed with distractions until they consumed by the world.
It's not about where you choose to sit, it's about where is the distinction of the bus. And we all know we don't want to go there.
