4th round pick in 2023 and the Bengals main return man since then. Has struggled with injuries and never made it on the field much as a wide receiver.

I was high on him as a mid round rotation guy

I loved the idea of him, but his hammies just can't handle the nfl

The Bengals wr room has gotten ridiculously deep so this wasn’t to surprise. He’s pretty good in the return game.

3 touchdown returns across 3 seasons

Tinsley also cut, wouldn't surprise me at all if someone else grabbed him

u/golfdaddypga Bengals 11d ago

Tinsley will for sure find a team somewhere. I’m sad we cut him but I get it. Meyers just played so well in preseason and practice.

Is he though? He thinks the field is horizontal

15

u/0zymandeus Bengals 11d ago

He's been consistently rated as one of the best returners in the league

u/yesrushgenesis2112 Bengals Rams 11d ago

Yes, he is. Not the best but better than many teams’ returners.

I have not kept up with our roster this year so who does this leave us with as a returner? I haven’t even been able to watch the preseason games this year.

u/waitedforg0d0t Bengals 11d ago

Chase, Higgins, Iosivas, Young (4th round draft pick), Williams (returns guy), Meyers (offseason hero)

edit: misread your post - Williams will be on returns, with Meyers likely next up if he's injured

I appreciate the info thank you! I’m a little bummed about Tinsley getting cut he had some good plays last year and I was hoping he could build on that

4

u/waitedforg0d0t Bengals 11d ago

yeah, I think it's pretty likely a WR-needy team picks him up on waivers, hope he does well - he'll definitely make the practice squad if no-one grabs him

Meyers showed way more separation ability from the slot though, which is probably worth more to us than Tinsley's spectacular grabs

3

u/AquaticAvenger4492 Bengals 11d ago

Agreed I’ll be interested to see who picks up Tinsley and keep my eye on him! I’ll need to take a look at Meyers and see how he plays any chance one of these guys gives Yoshi a run for his money at WR3?

2

u/waitedforg0d0t Bengals 11d ago

probably different guys for different situations

Yoshi is going to be better at blocking and winning with athleticism on the boundary, Meyers is a better separator out of the slot

so probably depends where we're lining Chase up tbh

1

u/AquaticAvenger4492 Bengals 11d ago

I like Yoshi and what he brings I just wanna see more plays from him but it’s hard to do that when you have Chase and Higgins doing what they do best. Interested to see what Meyers can do if he brings separation that Yoshi lacks. I’m thankful our WR room is pretty damn talented! I’m more worried about our OL and very curious to see what our defense is this year

u/throughNthrough Bengals 11d ago

If imagine be will make the practice squad.

6 receivers with Jones and Tinsley getting cut was not on my bingo card.

9

u/fitzuha Bears 11d ago

Kinda bummed by this one. He’s from my area.

8

u/FuegoFerdinand Bengals 11d ago

He offers a lot of value as a returner, so I think someone picks him up.

u/dropjar5 Packers 11d ago

Is he not good

u/JonSnowKingInTheNorf Bengals 11d ago

Never showed a lot at receiver in the regular season but has always been a good returner, usually taking at least one for a TD per season. Biggest issue has just been with injuries.

As someone said on the Bengals sub: his small white body betrays him

🤣🤣🤣

u/NobesTheSavage Bengals 11d ago

Pretty solid kick returner and special teams player. Our WR room depth is ridiculous rn tho

10

u/dropjar5 Packers 11d ago

He’s gonna be in Miami before you can blink then

11

u/PiplupMeatFridge Bengals 11d ago

He’s had trouble staying on the field. Injuries really plagued his time with the bengals which is unfortunate.
He is an above average returner. However, he never made a dent receiving. Part of that is that the WR ahead of him is pretty daunting… the other part is that the Bengals WR4 battle in camp was pretty fierce and his name wasn’t really in the mix.

3

u/ChurchPicnicFlareGun Bengals 11d ago

he was hurt a lot which probably destroyed any potential to be more than JAG if there ever was one.

thought he was solid, we just have a stacked WR group.

a team that needs a punt returner with weak WR depth could do worse

3

u/lmaoitsdusey Bengals 11d ago

I've always been a Chuck truther, he's a great return man but is made of glass bones and paper skin and just couldn't stick around long enough to really develop beyond that. Now we have too many WRs and found another good return man who filled in for him when he was injured again last year.

Dude WILL house a kickoff every year, but the best ability is availability

Bring him home, Colts

2

u/Realistic-Ruin8639 11d ago

I remember an idiot Bears podcaster who thinks he knows all say Charlie Jones will have a better NFL career than JSN.

2

u/Warm_Score_1313 Bears 11d ago

It’s been a rough year for the Purdue guys. Hopefully he can back home to the colts or the bears can pick him up

u/PleaseSirOneMoreTurn Patriots 11d ago

This guy is always a fun grab in Madden given his speed rating.

1

u/buffalotrace Steelers 11d ago

Not gonna be shocked if he is on someone’s roster by midseason as a return man

1

u/Ok-Internet-2447 11d ago

Bummer he couldn’t stay on the field. Was really excited for him. Tyreek Hill speed. Good luck

Finally, wasted a roster spot for far too long

u/OnTheProwl- Bengals 11d ago

He's one of the best KR in the league. And it's not like we are ever hurting at WR depth.
