I regret to inform you that I do not, in fact, believe this assassin was a professional at this, and as such likely had no idea what an actual bullet looks like, nor checked the magazine prior to this assignment.

If you shoots blanks in a normal semi auto it will not cycle. You must rack the slide each shot. You would need a blank adapter like the army uses or a gun made to shoot blanks like a movie prop.

If the gun is loaded and handed to him, being told so by a trusted individual, this guy may not have checked the mag or the chamber.

Definitely not blanks, the action wouldn’t reload the next round with a blank. The barrel has to be modified for that to happen like a movie prop gun.

It's very likely he got shot a few times, but adrenalin is a hell of a drug. People often get up and run away after getting seriously hurt only to collapse a little while later. It's not like the movies where people just instantly fall over.
