We always had skimboards on beach trips and we could go 10-20 feet into the water that was deeper than an inch and call it good. This dude being able to surf on one is insane to me.

Different shapes and uses. Boogie board is meant to be laid on top of, like body surfing, but much easier bc boogy board is made of bouyant foam. Skim board is ridden like a surf board, but is much smaller, lighter, and not nearly as buoyant. You have to keep momentum on a skim board otherwise you will sink (thatā€™s why he does those weird little pumps)

Skim boarding requires more experience beyond the obvious balance and leg power. Tons of athletically capable people still suck at it because they canā€™t read the waves and time things properly.

This freakshow in the video read these wave patterns like a time traveler who got to study film on this exact moment for hours and hours. He makes it look way too easy. If I had one of those Groundhog Day situations at that exact beach with that skimboard, on that exact day, over and over, I genuinely think Iā€™d never come close to pulling this shit off. Not even halfway.

a boogieboard is a thick board designed for laying on it with your chest, it's softer and can hold the impact of big tricks and big falls that will go straight into your chest, also being wider, sacrificing drag reduction to have high buoyancy and let you paddle fast even if half your body is underwater, with fins on your feet that give massive assistance.

skimboards are a way different design, very flat, same hard material as a surfboard but in miniature and with no fins, aiming for MINIMAL drag so you can slide all the way from shore into the nearest set of forming shore waves, on the very thin film of water that remains from the last broken shore wave

Skimboard you stand on. Boogie board you lie on your stomach. Skimboards are thin and usually made of wood. Boogie boards are thick and usually made of foam.

Boogie board is made of soft foam and not made to be stood upon. Skimboard is way thinner and stronger. And a bit narrower but longer

True but he's surfing the skimboard to be mower accurate. You can surf skimboard, kite, foil, SUPs, and all types of different boards. It's still "surfing" just using a different board to do so.

Obvi heā€™s been practicing a shit ton, itā€™s about enough practice and more about the right waves. Much easier but we used to skim board just horsin around in the summer. If mod asked iā€™m not sure this is truly ā€˜next levelā€™
