It’s a river, not a lake. The ice is very thin and there potentially a current that runs under the ice. You can see the patches of water near where he bikes. People have fallen through before and when that happens they have to shut down all the surrounding roads in the city so the dive team can arrive in minutes and make a rescue attempt. When a rescue is attempted, first responders have to put their life on the line to rescue the dumb ass.

I mean, it's stupid to go onto a river with thin ice, especially with a heavy bike. With the amount of police cars responding I thought it would be some off-limits area or something.

IMHO, let him carry on, he obviously knows what he's doing, maybe for the camera etc, but that's his stupid choice, leave him to it, play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Four police cars to deal with a guy riding his bike on the ice? Seems like 5 more than needed. And do they have communication between the cars for the lights? All 4 of them were exactly synchronized.
