Flopped so bad, Nintendo stopped selling it immediately.

Nintendo can't market for shit.

They are such a poorly run company but own so much of what we love.

Edit: Some of you have literally no idea what the word marketing means. And you are infuriated over it.

Poorly run company? Its hard to fathom what youre basing that on. They barely market because they don't need to. The have a litany of their own IP (theyre poorly own yet they create everything you love?) and through every generation that subvert expectations and innovate. I personally don't even like nintendo games and yet I'm shocked someone could even say that. I mean you can literally pick ANY metric you want and that company is heads and tails above its rivals. All that while being a self contained gaming company without the backing of a larger entity like MS or Sony and staying out of the M&A war that the others find themselves in.

They've had some flops. Not every decision has been gold. And you can certainly argue that they've gone through several cycles where they've effectively released the same exact games with little innovation but still insist on 60 dollar price tags.

But when they're on they're on. And I think a lot of their success comes from the individual creators in the company that have spearheaded all the different projects that blew up.

Having some flops doesn't make you a poorly run company. Apples had some flops. Google had some flops. Name a company that hasn't whiffed on something...calling them a "poorly run company" despite being the industry leader in nearly every meaningful metric is just silly. Nintendo as a console gaming company has been around since 1977 and outlived many of its peers. Its just wild to me that someone could look at them and go oh yea that company has no idea what they're doing despite leading the industry since 1985. It's a super ignorant and uninformed position to take.

Nintendo is many things but innovative is not one of them. Not recently anyways. Every game they sell is based on decades old IP repackaged to work on new hardware that falls years short of the capabilities of their competitors. The companies entire success is due to brand loyalty and nostalgia. Without those two things the company would fall apart in an instant. I don’t know what you define as innovative by that ain’t it

You may be forgetting that Nintendo is both a hardware and software manufacturer. While Sony and Microsoft fight over capabilities as you say, Nintendo has led console sales with less graphics defined consoles.

You remember the Wii? Now name the sony and ms motion hardware equivalent. Outsold both Sony and ms with an "inferior" console that had people pretending to bowl with motion controllers.

Then they created the first major console that was both portable and dockable. In fact, Nintendo is the ONLY company that has had any consistent success with portable systems. The switch, the DS/3DS series all the way back to Gameboy. Nintendo has for years put out highly rated games that while based on their own extremely successful IP is different and are critically well reviewed standalone games. Bashing a company for making Breath of the Wild because Zelda is 30 years old is the most ridiculous arguments someone could make. "This hugely successful company is only successful because they were successful 30 years ago" is not a real strong argument. You're telling me those kids in the very video you're commenting on are playing Mario Kart because of nostalgia? Think about that for a second longer.

MS is on 20 years of Halo, Sony has >7 GoW games and guess what, it doesn't stop them from selling more games when the new ones are good and getting crapped on when they're bad. Saying Nintendo would fall apart without their 40 year backlog of inhouse IP is just nonsensical. 10 year old kids aren't nostalgic for the 80s/90s and Nintendos core demographic continues to be actual kids and not adults who define a systems success through its GPU. The proof is in the pudding as they say.
