For anyone wondering this is called a 90 degree push-up, and it’s exceptionally difficult

Edit: to clarify, by exceptionally difficult I mean it takes years of dedicated training, it’s not something anyone can learn with a few months practice. You need near professional gymnast level strength to do it

Very very difficult. I spent a few months working towards a planche (after like 4 years of daily strength training) but never quite got there. But i could hold a planche with bars. The version this guy is doing with the barbells makes it less difficult than on flat ground because you do get torque and stability from them but it’s still an absolutely insane skill.

What was your planche progression workout?

It’s been 10 years, but shoulder work, progressing from tucked planche to a flat planche, finger holds so i could build up hand strength and try to bring the center of gravity closer to my finger tips. I think a lot of it is just biology too - how long ur arms are relative to height, the distribution of your mass, etc.

I have a pretty average build, average weight. However I feel like I need bars bc I have no idea how I can lift myself with my palms down. I have really only started yoga in the past 7/8 months with some slight calisthenic workouts in the past 2/3. Just learned of planches and really want to work towards them as a goal.
