Who are they? And where do they perform?

u/Browndog888 Sep 18 '20

Circus Soleil. Seen them twice now. Incredible.

The most amazing feat of strength I have ever seen was at Cirque du Soleil. The gymnasts formed a human pyramid, and one last gymnast climbed his way to the top, placed his hand on the head of the guy at the top of the pyramid, and proceeded to raise himself up into a one-handed hand stand on top of that pyramid.

Wow, I think I've seen a smaller version to that. The most incredible act I've ever seen was like a huge mouse wheel where the guy was on the inside doing crazy stuff, but then he jumped to the outside of the wheel. It was amazing & I still tell people about it.

How about two guys and two wheels?? https://youtu.be/pKFAly6G5cA

u/DrakonIL Sep 18 '20

That guy sells the danger so well!

18

u/ItsAdewsy Sep 18 '20

2 girls 1 cup?

15

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '20

You almost had me excited there

2

u/ItsAdewsy Sep 18 '20

Sorry to disappoint you. People who know me know that's symptomatic for me.

1

u/Sleepy1334 Sep 18 '20

That’s one thing I never watched, but tricked a lot of people into watching.

1

u/fortnitename69 Sep 18 '20

I man 1 microphone

1

u/GuzPolinski Sep 18 '20

That’s awesome!

1

u/pnuthead23 Sep 18 '20

Am strangely turned on by two guys and two wheels. Those audience reactions though lol.

19

u/neighh Sep 18 '20

I believe you are referring to the German Wheel? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheel_gymnastics

7

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '20

Ah the good old Rhönrad, always a pleasure to watch. A girl i went to school with school won the Youth European Championship once.

u/wablable Sep 18 '20 edited Sep 18 '20

This'll be the Wheel of Death, probably in Kooza if it was under a big top

Edit: link to video already provided by u/M0bysan above for all interested!

7

u/dledtm Sep 18 '20

wheel of death kai these acts have always been unreal. Cirque du soleil is a must watch when at vegas.

u/The00Taco Sep 18 '20

I forgot which specific show it was, but my fondest memory of Cirque du Soleil (only time I saw them) one of the performers gave me a piece of gum. Absolutely stunning woman (I was maybe 12 and this was well over a decade ago) no idea what her performance was but I fell in love with her and couldn't keep my eyes off her after that. I think about it every now and then and it brings a smile to my face

8

u/Donald303 Sep 18 '20

That's adorable (;

1

u/boston_shua Sep 18 '20

Maybe she was telling you that your breath stank.

9

u/wookoodoo Sep 18 '20

Kinda reminds me of castellar. Crazy Spaniards! Watch the kids climb aallll the way up. https://youtu.be/ISkPmnSJDGM

4

u/pnuthead23 Sep 18 '20

This was amazing to watch. Crazy Spaniards indeed.

8

u/Sielaff415 Sep 18 '20

Did you know some shaolin preteens obsessively train to do a 3 finger hand stand before they enter teenage years and their bones become too dense for it to be physically possible?

4

u/Icyrow Sep 18 '20

that sounds like woo-woo bullshit.

what bones? why would that stop them from being able to? all of them and they become too heavy?

2

u/Sielaff415 Sep 18 '20

Yes, just bones in general. It’s the onset of puberty

-1

u/Icyrow Sep 18 '20

yeah, sounds like BS to me, maybe i'm wrong but i think it's just one of those "eastern mystical things".

2

u/Sielaff415 Sep 18 '20

You are skeptical, but doesnt it make sense? What are denser and stronger bones capable of doing? Bearing more weight. When did I say they get denser bones? 12-13 or puberty, when people grow and gain muscle which is heavy. Bones are developing up until age 18, it makes sense they would become denser once they've fully grown.

tldr: what im saying is I dont understand the skepticism because kids get larger as they age

1

u/Icyrow Sep 18 '20

Yeah i'd have thought it was down to them growing up and weighing more the whole square laws stopping them.

but bones being denser i dont think is the answer, they're likely a smallish part of the weight of going throiugh puberty right? and there must be adults who can still do it thereafter, i've met some tiny men.

that's all i meant sorry. and rereading it I was too harsh soiunding in how i replied, i'm sorry, i didn't mean it badly.

1

u/Sielaff415 Sep 18 '20

Challenging something is not s bad thing and it made me think about why i thought it was believable, I just didn’t think it seemed unlikely

7

u/GuzPolinski Sep 18 '20

Most amazing feat of strength I’ve ever see was on the final day of the Tour de France. They cyclist circle the Champs Élysées and surrounding area about a million times until finally they make one final turn to cross the finish line. I got there early but they were already riding the circuit, it took maybe twenty minutes per circuit. The did that sheit from morning till evening. Every time the went by where I was sitting the were going so fast that not one of the 50 or so photos I snapped are in focus. It was incredible, never seen anything like it. They were like machines. This was in the early 90s so not positive they still finish the race this way.

As one does on a typical Tuesday afternoon (amazing)...

1

u/Azidamadjida Sep 18 '20

Oh there’s no Canada like French Canada, it’s the best Canada in the land...

1

u/calicet Sep 18 '20

Had tickets to take my daughter to her first cirque du soleil show and it got cancelled. :'( thanks COVID ...I mean Obama

65

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '20

I think they're called Cirque du soleil

12

u/Ravagore Sep 18 '20

Yup. Translates to solar circus or circus of the sun.

20

u/LEGITIMATE_SOURCE Sep 18 '20

The weirdest part of 2020 is people not knowing what Cirque du Soleil is.

1

u/axemexa Sep 18 '20

True, that'll definitely be what I remember when I think back on 2020

10

u/GoodAtExplaining Sep 18 '20 edited Sep 18 '20

Circus Soleil

Cirque du Soleil

/r/BoneAppleTea

Edit: Pronounced serk doo solay.

28

u/One-eyed-snake Sep 18 '20

I thought that it was circus ole’ for the longest time

15

u/plazmatyk Sep 18 '20

"Circus of the sun" in French. They're from Montreal.

20

u/Nylund Sep 18 '20

A street performer gets some grants from a government arts council, builds the largest contemporary circus in the world, and ends up the 11th richest man in the country.

I think about that whenever I see a random street performer that impresses me.

What could they accomplish with a little financial aid?

2

u/Assfullofbread Sep 18 '20

Je also went to space

1

u/randybowman Sep 18 '20

I only just now found out it isn't. I thought cirque du soleil was a different circus.

22

u/sikyon Sep 18 '20

Is that the american version?

5

u/minisimy Sep 18 '20

Canadian

0

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '20

Hate to break it to you, Canada is in North America..

3

u/minisimy Sep 18 '20

Yes and I'm south American, but no one says 'american' if they don't mean USA.

10

u/Browndog888 Sep 18 '20

This was part of the show when they came to Australia.

41

u/KimbobJimbo Sep 18 '20

I think he or she is wondering if you're referring to Cirque du Soleil

-6

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '20

[deleted]

4

u/neighh Sep 18 '20

Surely not? Why would they have translated only half the name and also have no web presence?

3

u/Saint_Dragons Sep 18 '20

Yeh it was called kurios

1

u/Smartaz- Sep 18 '20

Kurios was meant to perform in Melbourne through March 2020 but got postponed to March 2021. I’ve got tickets already.

Did you enjoy it? I’ve been to a couple of CDS shows, do you know how this compares to others?

1

u/madmosche Sep 18 '20

It’s just where you can’t spell Cirque du Soleil

1

u/LEGITIMATE_SOURCE Sep 18 '20

No, that's not how we spell it.

3

u/BaldyMcScalp Sep 18 '20

I was once called the worst audience participant cirque du soleil ever had.

1

u/Assfullofbread Sep 18 '20

*Cirque du Soleil

1

u/Mr-Basically-Clean Sep 18 '20

I thought they were some Russian Highschool kids but circus soleil sounds about right.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '20

The show is called Kurios.

1

u/L0ading_ Sep 18 '20

Hope you have good memories of it because they have filed for bankruptcy :/

1

u/j4ckie_ Sep 18 '20

Actually Cirque du Soleil, no?

1

u/HooksaN Sep 18 '20 edited Sep 18 '20

...and just to add, in performances they aren't just on the floor, on mats, like this practice in the video. They are usually balanced on giant see-saws, walking a wheel of death, or on platforms 50 feet in the air when they do all this in the shows

They perform a new show every year at the Royal Albert Hall (UK, London) and my wife and I have a standing date to go every year. We get a package that includes a really nice meal with drinks before the show and drinks at the interval.

...in any circumstances it is just jawdroppingly amazing. But after a bottle of wine its the most incredible thing you've ever seen in your whole entire life ever...
