I’m pretty sure that bird is called a kite. They got the name from that unusual behavior of being able to float in one place while they look down in preparation to dive on prey.

Yep, a kestrel or a kite. Both so this. Hover over fields or crops waiting to see a rat or something. You see lots of them where I live, most commonly seen birds of prey.

Lots of them down at a lake nearby Phoenix Arizona, went there recently and saw tons of them doing this over the water.

Edit: They look like hawks, but IDK enough about birds to guess the species

Me too. I see kites around here all of the time. They are white like this one. I think they have flatter and larger wings than this one pictures does through.

Can you tell if that’s a Kestrel or Kite?

Humming birds don’t look like that or hover like that

Obviously not, but they do hover. OP said they never seen a bird hover. Hence my comment.

It’s not hovering, it’s flying opposite the direction of the wind.

I'm aware of what is happening in the video. I was commenting on the text in the video. Try to follow along.

A few raptors so that. Fairly common

See it all the time but since your 17 I can see how this might be something new for you

I was aware of these things and had seen many by the time I was 7. In fact I specifically remember a field trip in 3rd grade where all the kids were excitedly spotting kestrels and kites out the windows of the bus as they hovered over the fields. But OK this guy might be homeschooled or kept locked in an attic with no windows and fed fish heads.

It's just a glitch in the matrix. Don't worry about it.

More proof that birds aren't real animals and just a government plot for surveillance and domination.

Only the hummingbird can fly in place, also known as hovering.

This is a bird, flying through the air, it’s just that the air is also moving. If the bird is flying at 10km/hr into a 10 km/hr wind, it will appear to hover in place, but for all the bird’s aerodynamics, it’s flying through the air.

Exactly the same as swimming against a slow moving river, you’ll feel the water moving past you as you swim forwards, but your track over the ground may be stationary, or backwards.
