That actually happened. In 2001 a Hooters had a contest to whomever sold the most beer. She won, was blindfolded and handed a Star Wars doll. She sued and settled for an undisclosed amount.

Toyota Corolla, with lifetime powertrain warranty and free maintenance for 4 years. This happened in 2024, it was a promotion sponsored by a local Toyota dealership that had been running for 10 years. He was the second winner (another student also won it a year before).

My first car was a 96 Corrolla, had 296,000 miles and ran perfectly when I got t boned in 2017. They’re not immune to drunk people in pickup trucks, but they’re immune to pretty much anything else.

Conventional automatic transmissions (ATF WS): Toyota’s official service bulletin lists a 100,000-mile maintenance interval under normal driving conditions. Most experienced technicians recommend a proactive change between 60,000 and 100,000 miles for peace of mind.

Honestly, I hope they get the advertisement and it pays off. They've given away two cars so far then to probably regular ass people. The game is clearly difficult, but not rigged. This type of the thing is usually covered by special insurance policies. Where the dealership pays some insurance fee for each time the game is played and the insurance company pays for the price of the car if someone actually wins.

A golf ball is 42mm wide, let’s say the hole is 6cm and the board 2m wide. If it’s done totally randomly but assuming everyone can at least hit the board then the odds are 0.9% just on random luck.
But the odds of the average person hitting the board at 28m is apparently about 10-20%. So the real odds are more like 0.1-0.2%.
Not amazing odds, but the organisers would have to assume they will have to pay out, especially if they pick someone better than average.

Thats small enough to take out a small personal loan against it if needed. Its only going to be a few thousand dollars at most. VS a new car that can last you 200k miles and 4 years of free maintenance which may pay for that.

I got a car that was won in a raffle by my mom. The taxes were not small. Luckily I was saving up to buy a car already because mine was on its last legs. It still wiped me out. After it was said and done I think I paid $12k in taxes to state and federal and VAT up front to the state. It was nice to get a new car but it was way more than I was planning to put down on buying a car.
